Molecular mimicry: An explanation for autoimmune diseases and infertility

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Immunology, 2018
Microorganisms execute an enthralling range of adjustments to survive in the host. Among the various strategies employed by microorganisms to surmount the host immune response, the phenomenon of molecular mimicry empowers the microorganisms to manoeuvre ...

Porous Silicon Nanoneedles Efficiently Deliver Adenine Base Editor to Correct a Recurrent Pathogenic COL7A1 Variant in Recessive Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Base editing using nanoneedles efficiently corrects pathogenic variants in the type VII collagen gene of primary fibroblasts from patients with recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa. Nanoneedle editing induces minimal and reversible transcriptional perturbations while restoring the production and secretion of functional type VII collagen.

The role of tunable activation thresholds in the dynamics of autoimmunity [PDF]

open access: yesJ. Theor. Biol. 308, 45-55 (2012), 2012
It has been known for some time that human autoimmune diseases can be triggered by viral infections. Several possible mechanisms of interactions between a virus and immune system have been analysed, with a prevailing opinion being that the onset of autoimmunity can in many cases be attributed to "molecular mimicry", where linear peptide epitopes ...

Molecular mimicry in autoimmune disease [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Disease in Childhood, 1998
The origins of autoimmune disease are multifactorial. Environmental factors and a genetic predisposition result in tissue injury caused by autoreactive T cells or antibodies. Usually a single organ or individual cell type is affected in the absence of gross abnormalities of the immune system.

Molecular mimicry in Helicobacter pylori infections

open access: yesWorld Journal of Gastroenterology, 2017
Gram-negative bacteria Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) colonize gastric mucosa in humans and increase the risk of serious diseases such as gastric and duodenal ulcers, stomach cancers and mucosa associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma. The role of H.

Two SOX11 variants cause Coffin–Siris syndrome with a new feature of sensorineural hearing loss

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, Volume 191, Issue 1, Page 183-189, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Coffin‐Siris syndrome (CSS, OMIM#135900) is a rare congenital disorder associated with neurodevelopmental and dysmorphic features. The primary cause of CSS is pathogenic variants in any of 9 BAF chromatin‐remodeling complex encoding genes or the genes SOX11 and PHF6. Herein, we performed whole‐exome sequencing (WES) and a series of analyses of

Intravasation‐On‐µDevice (INVADE): Engineering Dynamic Vascular Interfaces to Study Cancer Cell Intravasation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Cancer metastasis begins with intravasation, a complex process involving cancer‐endothelial interactions. INVADE (Intravasation‐on‐µDevice), a biomimetic microfluidic platform enables high‐throughput analysis of intravasation under controlled conditions.

The protective effects of Xuebijing injection on intestinal injuries of mice exposed to irradiation

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, Volume 5, Issue 6, Page 565-574, December 2022., 2022
Xuebijing injections (XBJ) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), approved for the sepsis treatment of by the China Food and Drug Administration. XBJ can effectively enhance the mice survival rate after total body irradiation (TBI). XBJ protects the crypt‐villus structure, maintains the proliferation and differentiation of the small intestine after ...

Sequence design-based control of DNA droplets formed from phase separation of DNA nanostructures [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
DNA has the potential to realize a controllable liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) system, because the design of its base sequences results in programmable interactions. Here, we have developed a novel DNA-based LLPS system which enables us to create 'DNA droplets' and to control their dynamic behaviour by designing sequences of the DNA ...
