The Effect of Strength Training During Chemotherapy in Women With Breast Cancer on Serum Cytokine Concentrations and Skeletal Muscle Autophagy‐Related Proteins

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Sport Science, Volume 26, Issue 7, July 2026.
ABSTRACT To evaluate whether strength training during chemotherapy alters (1) serum cytokines and (2) skeletal muscle autophagy‐ and heat‐shock‐related proteins in women with breast cancer. Exploratory analyses assessed associations between changes in physiological outcomes (muscle strength, cardiorespiratory fitness, and capillary density) and ...

Specific Deletion of Interleukin‐1 Beta in Microglia Improves Acute Outcome and Modulates Neurogenesis After Ischemic Stroke

open access: yesGlia, Volume 74, Issue 7, July 2026.
Microglial IL‐1β deletion improves acute outcome and reduces neutrophil recruitment after experimental ischemic stroke. Microglial IL‐1β deletion increases neurogenesis in the subventricular zone after experimental ischemic stroke. ABSTRACT Interleukin‐1 (IL‐1) signaling is a major driver of post‐ischemic neuroinflammation, yet the cell‐ and isoform ...

Evidence for a Two‐Step Model for Activation of GPR25 by the Chemoattractant CXCL17

open access: yesBasic &Clinical Pharmacology &Toxicology, Volume 139, Issue 1, July 2026.
ABSTRACT CXCL17 was recently reported to activate GPR25, a receptor expressed by T‐regulatory cells. Although classified as a chemokine, the activity of CXCL17 is ablated by minor C‐terminal truncation, suggesting a novel mode of receptor activation. We set out to test this hypothesis by mutagenesis. GPR25 was expressed in the murine pre‐B cell line L1.

Probiotics Augment the Effect of Non‐Surgical Periodontal Treatment—A Randomised, Double‐Blinded, Placebo‐Controlled Trial

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Periodontology, Volume 53, Issue 7, Page 1016-1030, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim To determine the effect of probiotic lozenges containing Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus PB01, Latilactobacillus curvatus EB10 and xylitol after non‐surgical periodontal treatment (NSPT) on changes in microbial composition. The secondary aims were to assess the clinical and immunological impact of probiotic consumption.

Role of Gram‐Negative Bacterial Infections in Acute‐On‐Chronic Liver Failure

open access: yesLiver International, Volume 46, Issue 7, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Acute‐on‐chronic liver failure (ACLF) is a systemic disease characterised by an acute clinical deterioration of pre‐existing liver cirrhosis leading to multiple organ failure due to systemic inflammation. It may be triggered by the translocation of bacteria and bacterial compounds across the gut barrier.

The Complex Relation of Branched‐Chain Amino Acids and Inflammation in the Obesity and Diabetes Context

open access: yesObesity Reviews, Volume 27, Issue 7, July 2026.
ABSTRACT In a scenario with increasing cases of obesity and diabetes worldwide, branched‐chain amino acids (BCAA) metabolism has become an important factor in the understanding of these pathologies. More recently, its chronic high plasma levels have been postulated, alongside glucose, inflammatory factors, and other molecules, as an important ...
