Is monodehydroascorbate reductase activity in leaf tissue critical for the maintenance of yield in tomato? [PDF]
Ascorbate redox metabolism and growth have been shown to be linked and related to the activity of enzymes that produce or remove the radical monodehydroascorbate, the semi-oxidized form of ascorbate (ascorbate oxidase or peroxidase and monodehydroascorbate reductase respectively).

Arabidopsis peroxisomes possess functionally redundant membrane and matrix isoforms of monodehydroascorbate reductase [PDF]
SummaryThe H2O2 byproduct of fatty acid catabolism in plant peroxisomes is removed in part by a membrane‐associated antioxidant system that involves both an ascorbate peroxidase and a monodehydroascorbate reductase (MDAR). Despite descriptions of 32‐kDa MDAR polypeptides in pea and castor peroxisomal membranes and cDNA sequences for several ‘cytosolic’

Reduction of Phenoxyl Radicals Mediated by Monodehydroascorbate Reductase
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2000Monodehydroascorbate (MDA) reductase catalyzes the reduction of MDA, the only organic radical substrate for the enzyme reported so far. Here, we show that cucumber MDA reductase is also capable of reducing phenoxyl radicals which are generated by horseradish peroxidase (HRP) with H2O2.

Purification and cDNA Cloning of Chloroplastic Monodehydroascorbate Reductase from Spinach
The chloroplastic isoform of monodehydroascorbate (MDA) radical reductase was purified from spinach chloroplasts and leaves. The cDNA of chloroplastic MDA reductase was cloned, and its deduced amino acid sequence, consisting of 497 residues, showed high homology with those of putative organellar MDA reductases deduced from cDNAs of several plants.

Monodehydroascorbate (MDA) radical reductase (EC 1.6.5.4) is an FAD enzyme that catalyzes the univalent reduction of MDA radical to ascorbate using NAD(P)H as an electron donor. The recombinant MDA reductase from cucumber was crystallized using polyethylene glycol 6000 as a precipitant.

Differential spatial and temporal expression patterns due to regulatory cis-elements and two different isoforms are detected among CpMDAR4 alleles in papaya. The aim of this research was to study the effects of cis-element differences between the X, Y and Yh alleles on the expression of CpMDAR4, a potential candidate gene for sex differentiation in ...

Ascorbate is a major antioxidant and radical scavenger in plants. Monodehydroascorbate reductase (MDAR) and dehydroascorbate reductase (DHAR) are two enzymes of the ascorbate-glutathione cycle that maintain ascorbate in its reduced state. MDAR2 (At3g09940) and DHAR5 (At1g19570) expression was upregulated in the roots and shoots of Arabidopsis seedlings

Ascorbic acid and photosynthesis I. “Monodehydroascorbic acid” reductase of chloroplasts
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta, 1958An enzyme system catalyzing the oxidation of DPNH and TPNH in the presence of ascorbic acid and of an ascorbic acid-oxidizing agent such as Cu++ ions or ascorbic acid oxidase has been extracted from the acetone powder of whole, washed spinach chloroplasts This system is unable to reduce dehydroascorbic acid, and closely corresponds to the reduced ...
