The Resistance to Freeze-Drying and to Storage Was Determined as the Cellular Ability to Recover Its Survival Rate and Acidification Activity

open access: yesInternational Journal of Microbiology, 2010
The protective effects of the fatty acid composition and membrane action of the acidification activity of two strains of Lactobacillus kept at 20∘C were studied.

Reversing Microglial Polarisation by High Intensity Interval Training: A Novel Approach to Mitigate Inflammatory Responses in Osteoarthritis via Jak2/Stat3 Pathway

open access: yesImmunology, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that high‐intensity interval training (HIIT) effectively alleviates OA‐induced inflammation by promoting M1 to M2 microglial polarisation via the Jak2/Stat3 pathway. HIIT increases pain thresholds and down‐regulates the expression of pro‐inflammatory factors such as Tmem119, SP, Glu, c‐Fos, and IL‐6 in an OA rat model.

Characterization of Non-Specific Uptake and Retention Mechanisms of [177Lu]Lu-PSMA-617 in the Salivary Glands

open access: yesPharmaceuticals, 2023
The radionuclide therapy [177Lu]Lu-PSMA-617 was recently FDA-approved for treatment of metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer. Salivary gland toxicity is currently considered as the main dose-limiting side effect.

In-vivo Magnetic Resonance Imaging of GABA and Glutamate [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Chemical Exchange Saturation Transfer (CEST) Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a molecular imaging methodology capable of mapping brain metabolites with relatively high spatial resolution. Specificity is the main goal of such experiments; yet CEST is confounded by spectral overlap between different molecular species.

A Mathematical Model of Tripartite Synapse: Astrocyte Induced Synaptic Plasticity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In this paper we present a biologically detailed mathematical model of tripartite synapses, where astrocytes modulate short-term synaptic plasticity. The model consists of a pre-synaptic bouton, a post-synaptic dendritic spine-head, a synaptic cleft and a peri-synaptic astrocyte controlling Ca2+ dynamics inside the synaptic bouton.

Heat-Bath Cooling of Spins in Two Amino Acids [PDF]

open access: yesChem. Phys. Lett. 517, 126-131 (2011), 2011
Heat-bath cooling is a component of practicable algorithmic cooling of spins, an approach which might be useful for in vivo 13C spectroscopy, in particular for prolonged metabolic processes where substrates that are hyperpolarized ex-vivo are not effective.

Evidence‐Based Lessons From Two Decades of Implementation Research on Complementary Feeding Programmes

open access: yesMaternal &Child Nutrition, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Child nutrition has serious long‐term development implications. Evidence‐based frameworks and models are urgently needed to reduce deficits in infants and young children's diets on a large scale. Our paper reviews 32 publications and five impact evaluations of programmes in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nepal, Nigeria and Vietnam to identify what ...

Metabolic stimulation improves bioenergetics and haematologic indices of circulating erythrocytes from sickle cell mice

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Metabolic stimulation improves bioenergetics, redox state, hydration and hematologic indices of circulating erythrocytes from sickle cell mice. Retained mitochondria in circulating RBCs from sickle mice are a source of RBC ATP as mitochondria function (ETC, electron transport chain) inhibitors [rotenone, a mitochondrial complex I

Evaluation of the alleviative role of Chlorella vulgaris and Spirulina platensis extract against ovarian dysfunctions induced by monosodium glutamate in mice

open access: yesJournal of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, 2018
Microalgae provide a wealthy natural resource of bioactive compounds, which have many biological activities. Monosodium glutamate is a food additive that acts either as food preservatives or as tastiness enhancer.
