Metastasising ameloblastoma or ameloblastic carcinoma? A case report with mutation analyses

open access: yesBMC Oral Health, 2023
Background Ameloblastic carcinoma and metastasising ameloblastoma are rare epithelial odontogenic tumours with aggressive features. Distinguishing between these two lesions is often clinically difficult but necessary to predict tumour behaviour or to ...

Pathway Analyses of Inherited Neuropathies Identify Putative Common Mechanisms of Axon Degeneration

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Inherited neuropathies (IN) are associated with over 100 different genetic mutations presenting with a variety of phenotypes. This complexity suggests multiple pathways may converge onto a limited number of downstream pathways to effect axonal injury.

Eph-ephrin signaling couples endothelial cell sorting and arterial specification

open access: yesNature Communications
Cell segregation allows the compartmentalization of cells with similar fates during morphogenesis, which can be enhanced by cell fate plasticity in response to local molecular and biomechanical cues.

Discrimination of Brazilian propolis according to the seasoning using chemometrics and machine learning based on UV-Vis scanning data

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Bioinformatics, 2015
Propolis is a chemically complex biomass produced by honeybees (Apis mellifera) from plant resins added of salivary enzymes, beeswax, and pollen. The biological activities described for propolis were also identified for donor plant’s resin, but a big ...

Forskolin Enhances Urokinase Plasminogen Activator Secretion and Angiogenic Activity of Xeno‐Free Cultures of Human Adipose Tissue‐Derived Stem Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
The regenerative potential of adipose tissue‐derived stem cells can be enhanced through chemical stimulation in vitro. A short stimulation protocol using forskolin, either alone or in combination with other growth factors, under xeno‐free conditions enhanced the pro‐angiogenic responses in human ASCs.

Retrotransposon Expression Is Upregulated in Adulthood and Suppressed during Regeneration of the Limb in the Axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum)

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
The axolotl's remarkable regenerative abilities decline with age, the causes may include the numerous repetitive elements within its genome. This study uncovers how Ty3 retrotransposons and coexpression networks involving muscle and immune pathways respond to aging and regeneration, suggesting that transposons respond to physiological shifts and may ...

Regulation of Cdc42 and its effectors in epithelial morphogenesis

open access: yesJournal of Cell Science, 2019
Cdc42 – a member of the small Rho GTPase family – regulates cell polarity across organisms from yeast to humans. It is an essential regulator of polarized morphogenesis in epithelial cells, through coordination of apical membrane morphogenesis, lumen ...

ELMO2 is an essential regulator of carotid artery development

open access: yesNature Communications
Engulfment and cell motility 2 (ELMO2) is a cytoskeletal adaptor protein necessary for cell migration and apoptotic cell removal. Loss-of-function mutations in ELMO2 cause intraosseous vascular malformation (VMOS), a human disease involving progressive ...

Standardised imaging pipeline for phenotyping mouse laterality defects and associated heart malformations, at multiple scales and multiple stages

open access: yesDisease Models & Mechanisms, 2019
Laterality defects are developmental disorders resulting from aberrant left/right patterning. In the most severe cases, such as in heterotaxy, they are associated with complex malformations of the heart.
