Image Fusion Method Based on Structure-Based Saliency Map and FDST-PCNN Framework

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
Image fusion has become an active and promising research topic in image processing. It provides an effective way to combine several source images to form a composite image with more detailed information than any one of the source images.

DNA methylation and expression of MAPRE3 affect overall survival of early‐stage non‐small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Both cg12821679MAPRE3 methylation and MAPRE3 expression are significantly associated with overall survival (OS) of non‐small cell lung cancer. Meanwhile, MAPRE3 expression significantly modified the effect of smoking cessation on OS. Smoking cessation benefits OS merely for patients with high MAPRE3 expression.

Annual Report (Focus on the Global South

open access: yes, 2004
Focus on the Global South was established in 1995 to challenge neoliberalism, militarism and corporate-driven globalization while strengthening just and equitable alternatives. We work in solidarity with the Global South – the great majority of humanity

Bidding Strategies for Realistic Multi-Unit Sealed-Bid Auctions

open access: yes, 2010
When autonomous agents decide on their bidding strategies in real world auctions, they have a number of concerns that go beyond the models that are normally analyzed in traditional auction theory.

Final-focus systems for multi-TeV linear colliders

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2014
In Phys. Rev. Lett. 86, 3779 (2001), a compact final focus system (FFS) was presented. This scheme was compared to the nonlocal chromatic correction FFS concluding with the superiority of the local system.

Circulating tumor cell viability during and after radiotherapy mirrors treatment response in cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Radiotherapy (RT) response depends on the DNA repair capacity of tumor and host cells. We show that circulating tumor cell (CTC) counts and apoptosis rates before and after RT predict treatment response and outcome, which can be accessed via easily accessible liquid biopsy approaches. Created in BioRender. Wikman, H.

Supporting Focus and Context Awareness in 3D Modeling Using Multi-Layered Displays

open access: yes, 2013
Although advances in computer technology over the past few decades have made it possible to create and render highly realistic 3D models these days, the process of creating these models has remained largely unchanged over the years.

Mixed-dimensional consistent coupling by multi-point constraint equations for efficient multi-scale modeling

open access: yes, 2012
Finding an appropriate linking method to connect different dimensional element types in a single finite element model is a key issue in the multi-scale modeling.

USP29‐regulated noncanonical stabilization of the hypoxia‐inducible factor‐α in aggressive prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We identify USP29 as the only DUB mirroring CA9 expression, a marker of hypoxia and HIF pathway activation associated with PCA aggressiveness. USP29 stabilizes HIF‐1α and HIF‐2α via a noncanonical mechanism that is independent of PHD/pVHL activity yet relies on proteasomal regulation, establishing USP29 as a previously unrecognized regulator of hypoxic

Explicit & Implicit Interaction Design for Multi-Focus Visualizations [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Ninth ACM International Conference on Interactive Tabletops and Surfaces, 2014
Many tasks that have to be performed to analyze data in large visual information spaces require the user to have several foci. This is for example the case for comparing or organizing digital artefacts. In my research, I explore alternative interaction concepts for multi-focus visualizations in the context of single and multi-user scenarios.
