Acoustic Emission Characteristics and Damage Evolution of Rock under Different Loading Modes

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
To study the evolution of acoustic emission (AE) parameters and the differences in the fracturing and failure process of rocks under different loading modes, AE signals of marble were detected during uniaxial compression tests (UCTs), direct tensile ...

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Semiparametric Estimates and Goodness-of-Fit Tests for Tire Wear and Failure Time Data

open access: yesNonlinear Analysis, 2002
The goodness-of-fit test for tire wear and failure time data with multiple failure modes is proposed. Parametric estimators of traumatic event cumulative intensities and semiparametric estimates of various reliability characteristics are given and their ...

A study on modes of rock failure under uniaxial compression [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Rock failure is a serious problem in rock engineering. Rock failure modes are complex and difficult. A comprehensive study on rock failure modes at laboratory scale is very important.

Protective wrapping of off-the-shelf components [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
System designers using off-the-shelf components (OTSCs), whose internals they cannot change, often use add-on “wrappers” to adapt the OTSCs’ behaviour as required.

PICALM::MLLT10 translocated leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This comprehensive review of PICALM::MLLT10 translocated acute leukemia provides an in‐depth review of the structure and function of CALM, AF10, and the fusion oncoprotein (1). The multifaceted molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis, including nucleocytoplasmic shuttling (2), epigenetic modifications (3), and disruption of endocytosis (4), are then ...

Reliability Measurements of the Furniture Frames with Selected Joint Types

open access: yesBioResources
The reliability was evaluated for frame construction with mortise and tenon (MT), dowel, and non-glued and glued staple joints made of beech wood. The moment capacities of the T-shaped joints were determined under static vertical loads.

Optimal Inspection and Replacement Decisions for Multiple Failure Modes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Cost functions, associated with the gamma process for modelling deterioration, are extended to include multiple failure modes. The application of these cost functions is demonstrated by an example in the process industry. We consider an elbow in a pipeline, which is susceptible to thinning due to corrosion and stress corrosion cracking.
