The role of spread through air spaces (STAS) in lung adenocarcinoma prognosis and therapeutic decision making.

open access: yes, 2020
Spread through air spaces (STAS) was included as a novel pattern of invasion in lung adenocarcinoma by the World Health Organization in 2015. Since then, multiple studies have investigated the association of STAS with clinicopathological and molecular ...

Mechanisms and therapeutic opportunities of the ribotoxic stress response in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cancer cells' high translational demand creates opportunities to therapeutically target ribosome function. Ribosome stalling and collisions activate ZAKα and the ribotoxic stress response (RSR), which can trigger rapid, p53‐independent apoptosis in cancer.

ALDH-positive lung cancer stem cells confer resistance to epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors

open access: yes, 2014
Molecular targeting therapeutics, such as EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), are important treatment strategies for lung cancer. Currently, the major challenge confronting targeted cancer therapies is the development of resistance. Cancer stem cells

Gut microbiota alterations in patients with non‐small‐cell lung cancer undergoing chemoradiotherapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We investigated the impact of concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CRT) on the gut microbiota in patients with locally advanced non‐small‐cell lung cancer. Overall gut microbiota composition remained largely stable throughout CRT while antibiotic exposure may influence microbial diversity.

Cancer Trends: Cancer of unknown primary

open access: yes, 2019
Between 2012 and 2016, over 450 patients per year were diagnosed with a malignant cancer where the primary site of their cancer was unspecified. These cancers were identified by the presence of metastatic disease where the cancer has spread to other ...

Erlotinib in patients with previously irradiated, recurrent brain metastases from non-small cell lung cancer: Two case reports [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Background: With the current improvements in primary lung care, the long-term control of brain metastases becomes a clinical challenge. No established therapeutic approaches exist for cranial relapse after response to previous radiotherapy and systemic ...

A Survey of the Czechoslovak Follow-up of Lung Cancer Mortality in Uranium Miners [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
The major Czechoslovak cohort of uranium miners (S-cohort) is surveyed in terms of diagrams illustrating dependences on calendar year, age, and exposure to radon and radon progeny.

Long-read sequencing and proteomics reveal blood transcriptome and protein expression profiles in multiple primary lung cancers

open access: yesBMC Cancer
Multiple primary cancers (MPC) refer to the occurrence of two or more independent primary malignant tumors in the same patient, either simultaneously or metachronously.

NAPRT loss promotes lung tumor initiation and growth through AKT signaling independently of NAD+ biosynthesis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of NAPRT promotes lung tumor initiation and growth through a noncanonical mechanism, independent of its role in NAD+ biosynthesis. Mechanistically, NAPRT depletion activates the mTORC2‐driven AKT/β‐catenin signaling axis to enhance clonogenic and invasive phenotypes. Furthermore, lung‐specific Naprt deletion significantly increases tumor burden in
