Characteristics and functions of DNA N(6)-methyladenine in embryonic chicken muscle development

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2023
: DNA N(6)-methyladenine (DNA-6mA) is a new epigenetic mark in eukaryotes, the distribution and functions of which in genomic DNA remain unknown. Although recent studies have suggested that 6mA is present in multiple model organisms and is dynamically ...

Non-myogenic Contribution to Muscle Development and Homeostasis: The Role of Connective Tissues

open access: yesFront. Cell Dev. Biol., 2017
Skeletal muscles belong to the musculoskeletal system, which is composed of bone, tendon, ligament and irregular connective tissue, and closely associated with motor nerves and blood vessels.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Give it a rest: a systematic review with Bayesian meta-analysis on the effect of inter-set rest interval duration on muscle hypertrophy

open access: yesFrontiers in Sports and Active Living
We systematically searched the literature for studies with a randomized design that compared different inter-set rest interval durations for estimates of pre-/post-study changes in lean/muscle mass in healthy adults while controlling all other training ...

Tibiofemoral and patellofemoral joint 3D-kinematics in patients with posterior cruciate ligament deficiency compared to healthy volunteers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Background: The posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) plays an important role in maintaining physiological kinematics and function of the knee joint. To date mainly in-vitro models or combined magnetic resonance and fluoroscopic systems have been used for ...

Integrated Analysis of Long Non-coding RNAs (LncRNAs) and mRNA Expression Profiles Reveals the Potential Role of LncRNAs in Skeletal Muscle Development of the Chicken

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2017
Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play important roles in transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation. However, little is currently known about the mechanisms by which they regulate skeletal muscle development in the chicken.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Evaluating urea‐polyhalite and ammonium nitrate‐polyhalite fertilizers for mitigating ammonia volatilization in contrasting soils

open access: yesAgrosystems, Geosciences & Environment
Ammonia (NH3) volatilization from urea‐based fertilizers reduces nitrogen use efficiency and contributes to atmospheric NH3 emissions and associated health risks.
