Conditional Cripto overexpression in satellite cells promotes myogenic commitment and enhances early regeneration

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2015
Skeletal muscle regeneration mainly depends on satellite cells, a population of resident muscle stem cells. Despite extensive studies, knowledge of the molecular mechanisms underlying the early events associated with satellite cell activation and ...

A Systematic Study of GelMA‐Carbopol Bioinks for High‐Fidelity Extrusion 3D Bioprinting at Physiological Temperatures

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Gonzalez Martinez and collaborators develop a strategy to formulate high performance GelMA‐based bioinks with low solids contents. The resulting bioinks enable 3D bioprinting at 37 °C of high‐fidelity structures with tunable mechanical properties that support high cell viability and function.

Myoblast-derived ADAMTS-like 2 promotes skeletal muscle regeneration after injury

open access: yesnpj Regenerative Medicine
Skeletal muscle regeneration and functional recovery after minor injuries requires the activation of muscle-resident myogenic muscle stem cells (i.e. satellite cells) and their subsequent differentiation into myoblasts, myocytes, and ultimately myofibers.

Atomic Layer Deposition Processes: Versatile Platforms for Engineering ZnO‐Chitosan Biointerfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Vapour phase metalation (VPM), multiplied pulsed vapour phase infiltration (MPI), and O2 plasma‑enhanced atomic layer deposition (PEALD) tailor Zn–chitosan (Zn‑CS) films. PEALD improves wettability and biocompatibility. MPI enhances semiconductor behavior. Antiseptic selectivity: VPM → E. coli; MPI → H. pylori.

Cellular Responses to Mechanical Cues Across Scales: From Fundamental Insights to Translational Potential

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This review examines how cellular behavior is regulated by mechanical cues transmitted through soft biomaterials, from single‐cell mechanosensing to tissue‐level adaptation. It highlights why physiological relevance, rather than model complexity alone, is critical for translational mechanobiology and introduces a scoring framework linking material ...

The Effect of Pax3 Over-expression on Myoblast Function

open access: yes, 2009
The paired-box transcription factor 3 (Pax3), is a powerful myogenic regulatory factor during embryo-myogenesis. The expression of Pax3 is involved in determining somitic cell fate, resulting in the formation of the first differentiated muscle, the ...

Glucocorticoid Effects in Muscle Regeneration: Impact on Muscle Fibers, Fibro-Adipogenic Progenitors and Associated Implications for Bones

open access: yes
reservedMyopathies are a diverse group of disorders primarily affecting skeletal muscles, resulting in muscle weakness, impaired function, and, in some cases, pain or muscle wasting. These conditions can be inherited, such as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (

Lack of TRPC1 channels impairs skeletal muscle regeneration

open access: yes, 2010
We have previously showed in vitro that Ca2+ entry through TRPC1 ion channels regulates myoblasts migration and differentiation by activating calpain, a Ca2+-dependent protease which cleaves myristoylated alanine-rich C-kinase substrate (MARCKS) protein ...
