Rheological basis of skeletal muscle work loops [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Skeletal muscle is subjected to simultaneous time-varying neural stimuli and length changes in vivo. Work loops are experimental representations of these in vivo conditions and exhibit force versus length responses that are not explainable using either soft matter rheology or the classical isometric and isotonic characterizations of muscle.

Incobotulinumtoxin A and Yoga-like Isometric Exercise in Adolescent Idiopathic Lumbar Scoliosis—A Randomized Pilot Study

open access: yesMuscles
Background: Approximately 90% of scoliosis cases are adolescent-idiopathic (AIS). From the first appearance of scoliosis at 10–14 years of age until the age of 18, the spine is most vulnerable to deterioration; young, growing people are most susceptible ...

Enhanced dose prediction for head and neck cancer artificial intelligence‐driven radiotherapy based on transfer learning with limited training data

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Training deep learning dose prediction models for the latest cutting‐edge radiotherapy techniques, such as AI‐based nodal radiotherapy (AINRT) and Daily Adaptive AI‐based nodal radiotherapy (DA‐AINRT), is challenging due to limited data.

Analyzing Respiratory Sinus Arrhythmia: A Markov Chain Approach with Hypertensive Patients and Arachnophobic Individuals

open access: yesMuscles
Respiratory Sinus Arrhythmia (RSA) manifests as cyclic fluctuations in heart rate in synchrony with breathing. Gaining insights into the dynamics of RSA within the cardiac muscle functioning is crucial for comprehending its physiological and clinical ...

Automatic skin flash optimization in breast and chestwall VMAT with static angle modulated ports: Effect of HU and flash margin size on plan quality and robustness

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Skin flash is typically added to breast and chestwall plans to ensure robust target coverage in the presence of respiratory motion, anatomic changes, and small setup uncertainties. Adding skin flash in volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) plans is an iterative and manual process.

Slow Limb Movements Require Precise Control of Muscle Stiffness [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
Slow and accurate finger and limb movements are essential to daily activities, but their neural control and governing mechanics are relatively unexplored. We consider neuromechanical systems where slow movements are produced by neural commands that modulate muscle stiffness.

The Mind is a Muscle – or: the Muscle is a Mind?

open access: yes, 2022
Understanding dance as a sensory and mentally grounded organisation of movement is at the core of Stephanie Schroedter's reflections. Of particular interest is the “muscle” or “movement” sense, which Émile Jaques-Dalcroze already insisted upon with great clairvoyance to train the transformation of sounds into spatio-temporal and dynamic nuanced ...
