The Effects of Multiple Acute Turkesterone Doses on Indirect Measures of Hypertrophy and Metabolic Measures: A Preliminary Investigation

open access: yesMuscles
Turkesterone is a naturally occurring plant steroid touted for its medicinal, pharmacological, and biological properties with no reported adverse side effects compared with traditional anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS).

Piezo1 channels enhance anabolic signaling activation induced by electrical stimulation of cultured myotubes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
By using an electrical pulse stimulation (EPS)‐based in vitro exercise model and chemical activation/inhibition of mechanosensitive Piezo1 channels, we explored changes in protein synthetic response in cultured C2C12 myotubes. Our data showed that application of Piezo1 activator (Yoda1) during EPS significantly enhances the rate of protein synthesis in

Reliability of Sensorimotor Control Tests in Individuals with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis

open access: yesMuscles
Background: The presence of sensorimotor control deficits in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis compared to typically developed adolescents is supported by the literature but lacks reliability studies for assessment in this population.

Establishment and biological characterization of radioresistant colorectal cancer cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Under ionizing radiation exposure, radiation‐sensitive cancer cells exhibit oxidative stress and DNA damage, while radiation‐resistant cancer cells exhibit strong antioxidant properties and DNA damage repair. Radiotherapy resistance is a major cause of recurrence and metastasis in colorectal cancer (CRC).

Noninvasive Assessments of Mitochondrial Capacity in People with Mitochondrial Myopathies

open access: yesMuscles
People affected by mitochondrial myopathies (MITOs) are thought to have impaired skeletal muscle oxygenation. The aims of this study were to measure skeletal muscle mitochondrial capacity in MITO participants and able-bodied (AB) participants and ...

Bioengineering facets of the tumor microenvironment in 3D tumor models: insights into cellular, biophysical and biochemical interactions

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The tumor microenvironment is a dynamic, multifaceted complex system of interdependent cellular, biochemical, and biophysical components. Three‐dimensional in vitro models of the tumor microenvironment enable a better understanding of these interactions and their impact on cancer progression and therapeutic resistance.

Correlation Between Maximal Eccentric and Isometric Multi-Joint Lower-Extremity Strength and Vertical Jumping Performance in Young Adults

open access: yesMuscles
Maximal eccentric (MES) and isometric (MIS) muscle strength may enhance vertical jump performance by facilitating preloading and reducing energy loss during the eccentric (ECC) phase of the stretch-shortening cycle (SSC).

Adenosine A3 receptor antagonists as anti‐tumor treatment in human prostate cancer: an in vitro study

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The A3 adenosine receptors (A3ARs) are overexpressed in prostate cancer. AR 292 and AR 357, as A3AR antagonists, are capable of blocking proliferation, modulating the expression of drug transporter genes involved in chemoresistance, ferroptosis, and the hypoxia response, and inducing cell death.

The Influence of Knee Proprioception and Strength on Lower-Limb Functional Symmetry in Healthy Adults

open access: yesMuscles
This study examined the association between knee proprioception, strength, and functional symmetry in healthy individuals using isokinetic strength tests, proprioception assessments, and hop tests. Twenty young, healthy adults (mean age 26.5 ± 4.1 years,
