Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Regulatory Effects of Myo-Inositol on Carbohydrate Metabolism and Low-Salinity Adaptation in Pacific White Shrimp (Penaeus vannamei)

open access: yesAquaculture Nutrition
This study investigated how dietary myo-inositol affects osmoregulation, carbohydrate and lipid metabolism, immunity, and antioxidant properties in Penaeus vannamei under long-term low-salinity conditions.

Functional Characterization of Pneumocystis carinii Inositol Transporter 1

open access: yesmBio, 2016
Fungi in the genus Pneumocystis live in the lungs of mammals, where they can cause a fatal pneumonia (PCP [Pneumocystis pneumonia]) in hosts with compromised immune systems.

Value of MRI Outcomes for Preventive and Early‐Stage Trials in Spinocerebellar Ataxias 1 and 3

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To examine the value of MRI outcomes as endpoints for preventive and early‐stage trials of two polyglutamine spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs). Methods A cohort of 100 participants (23 SCA1, 63 SCA3, median Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) score = 5, 42% preataxic, and 14 gene‐negative controls) was scanned at 3T up ...

Plasma myo-inositol elevation in heart failure: clinical implications and prognostic significance. Results from the BElgian and CAnadian MEtabolomics in HFpEF (BECAME-HF) research projectResearch in context

open access: yesEBioMedicine
Summary: Background: The metabolic environment plays a crucial role in the development of heart failure (HF). Our prior research demonstrated that myo-inositol, a metabolite transported by the sodium-myo-inositol co-transporter 1 (SMIT-1), can induce ...

Enzymatic fluorometric assay for myo-inositol trisphosphate [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
The determination of myo-inositol trisphosphate by an enzymatic fluorometric assay is presented. The method involves the acid extraction of water-soluble inositol polyphosphates followed by separation by anion-exchange chromatography.

Neurochemical Endpoints to Inform Early‐Stage Trials of Spinocerebellar Ataxia 2 and 3 in a Multisite Setting

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Neurochemical levels measured by brain MR spectroscopy (MRS) have been proposed as endpoints for clinical trials in early‐stage spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA) trials. We tested their trial‐readiness by quantifying neurochemicals in three affected brain regions in early‐stage cohorts of SCA2 and SCA3, examining their reproducibility in ...

SLC5A3-dependent myo-inositol auxotrophy in acute myeloid leukemia. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
An enhanced requirement for nutrients is a hallmark property of cancer cells. Here, we optimized an in vivo genetic screening strategy in acute myeloid leukemia (AML), which led to the identification of the myo-inositol transporter SLC5A3 as a dependency

A Toolkit for Targeted Neuromodulation of Striatal Direct Pathway Neurons Rescues Parkinsonian Motor Deficits in Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An adeno‐associated virus (AAV) toolkit enables selective anatomical and functional targeting of striatal D1‐MSNs through retrograde transduction. Enhanced capsids and engineered enhancers drive robust transgene expression across murine and primate models.
