R405W Desmin Knock‐In Mice Highlight Alterations of Mitochondria, Protein Quality Control and Myofibrils in Myofibrillar Myopathy

open access: yesJournal of Cachexia, Sarcopenia and Muscle, Volume 16, Issue 6, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Background Mutations in the desmin gene cause skeletal myopathies and cardiomyopathies. The objective of this study was to elucidate the molecular pathology induced by the expression of R405W mutant desmin in murine skeletal muscle. Methods A comprehensive characterization of the skeletal muscle pathology in hetero‐ and homozygous R405W desmin

Different Pattern in Circulating MicroRNA‐22‐3p Levels Between Patients With Primary Versus Secondary Sarcopenia

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 24, Issue 12, December 2025.
Serum miR‐22 levels are significantly associated with both primary (age‐related) and secondary (heart failure‐related) sarcopenia and independently predict its presence. Circulating miR‐22 may be a novel, non‐invasive epigenetic biomarker for detecting sarcopenia in aging and heart failure.

The human myotubularin-related protein suppresses the growth of lung carcinoma cells

open access: yes, 2004
Herein, we report that the human myotubularin-related protein (KIAA0371) induced growth suppression of lung cancer cells. Colony formation assays demonstrated that the exogenous expression of the human myotubularin-related gene induced a significant ...

Inhibition of Activin Receptor Type IIB Increases Strength and Lifespan in Myotubularin-Deficient Mice

open access: yes, 2011
International audienceX-linked myotubular myopathy (XLMTM) is a congenital disorder caused by deficiency of the lipid phosphatase, myotubularin. Patients with XLMTM often have severe perinatal weakness that requires mechanical ventilation to prevent ...

Isolation of the Binding Protein of Periplocoside E from BBMVs in Midgut of the Oriental Amyworm Mythimna separata Walker (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) through Affinity Chromatography

open access: yesToxins, 2016
Periplocosides, which are insecticidal compounds isolated from the root bark of Periploca sepium Bunge, can affect the digestive system of insects. However, the mechanism though which periplocosides induces a series of symptoms remains unknown.

Myotubularin family phosphatase ceMTM3 is required for muscle maintenance by preventing excessive autophagy in Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yesBMC Cell Biology, 2012
Background Autophagy is a ubiquitous cellular process responsible for the bulk degradation of cytoplasmic components through the autophagosomal-lysosomal pathway.

A novel transgenic reporter of extracellular acidification in zebrafish elucidates skeletal muscle T‐tubule pH regulation

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, Volume 254, Issue 9, Page 1068-1079, September 2025.
Abstract Disruption of extracellular pH and proton‐sensing can profoundly impact cellular and protein functions, leading to developmental defects. To visualize changes in extracellular pH in the developing embryo, we generated a zebrafish transgenic line that ubiquitously expresses the ratiometric pH‐sensitive fluorescent protein pHluorin2, tethered to

Intermediate Conductance Calcium‐Dependent Potassium Channel (KCa3.1) Interacting Proteins Using Turboid‐Based Proximity Labeling Technology: Insights Into Interactome and Related Signaling Pathways in Pancreatic Tumors

open access: yesJournal of Cellular Physiology, Volume 240, Issue 9, September 2025.
ABSTRACT KCa3.1 ion channel is a calcium‐activated potassium channel expressed in various tissues, showing dual localization to the plasma membrane and to mitochondria. This channel is highly expressed in numerous cancers and has been implicated in the regulation of proliferation and migration.

Divergent functions of the myotubularin (MTM) homologs AtMTM1 and AtMTM2 in Arabidopsis thaliana: Evolution of the plant MTM family

open access: yes, 2012
Myotubularin and myotubularin-related proteins are evolutionarily conserved in eukaryotes. Defects in their function result in muscular dystrophy, neuronal diseases and leukemia in humans.
