Relative potency of amphetamine derivatives and N,N-dimethyltryptamines

Psychopharmacologia, 1971
The relative potency of amphetamine derivatives and N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT) derivatives was evaluated in rats trained to swim through an underwater tube in order to escape at the other and of the tank. All of the compounds tested significantly increased the starting latency.

The effects of N,N-dimethyltryptamine on operant behavior in squirrel monkeys

Psychopharmacologia, 1973
Five squirrel monkeys were trained to stable levels of performance on fixed ratio schedules of food reinforcement. N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT) was then injected intramuscularly prior to fixed ratio testing and the behavioral effects observed. The determination of dose-response relationships with doses of 0.0, 5.4 and 10.8 Μmoles/kg indicated that ...

Effects of N, N-Dimethyltryptamine on behavioural habituation in the rat

Pharmacology Biochemistry and Behavior, 1977
The processes involved in habituation and the various ways drugs might affect habituation are discussed. Exploration was measured in a holehoard and N,N-Dimethyltryptamine (DMT, 4 mg/kg) profoundly reduced the level of exploration, precluding any conclusions about the rate of habituation with this dose.

Identification of N,N-dimethyltryptamine as the product of an in vitro enzymic methylation

Analytical Biochemistry, 1972
Abstract Thin-layer chromatography, reverse isotope dilution assay, and combined gas-liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry have demonstrated that an enzyme obtained from human lung catalyzes the in vitro methylation of N -methyltryptamine by S -adenosylmethionine to form N,N -dimethyltryptamine. Isolation of the product of the enzymic reaction

Metabolism of the hallucinogen N,N-dimethyltryptamine in rat brain homogenates

Biochemical Pharmacology, 1980
Abstract The metabolism of the hallucinogen N , N -dimethyltryptamine (DMT) in whole rat brain homogenate is reported. Studies were conducted using tritiated DMT and DMT- N -oxide (DMT-NO), and metabolites were identified and quantified using thin-layer chromatography and liquid scintillation counting techniques. Metabolite confirmation was obtained

Endogenous Biosynthesis and Neural Correlates of N,N-dimethyltryptamine

2023
N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT) belongs to a class of drugs known as serotonergic psychedelics, which produce profound shifts in consciousness by dramatically altering perception and causing hallucinatory phenomena. In humans, DMT has a rapid onset and the effects, which include feelings of dissociation from external reality, entering into an ...
