Dual Activation of H2 and CO2 by a Pincer‐Type Ni–Zn Heterobimetallic Complex

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A bimetallic Ni−Zn complex performs sequential activations of H2 (1 equiv) and CO2 (2 equiv). This bimetallic cooperativity is attributed to the weak Lewis acidic nature of Zn(II), which promotes fluxional ligand binding. Namely, an X‐type ligand at Ni, where X is hydride or formate, toggles between two different binding modes: bridging Zn(μ‐X)Ni and ...

N‑heterocyclic carbene complexes provide a platform for functional amphidynamic crystals

open access: yesCommunications Chemistry, 2021
Organizing molecular rotors in highly ordered crystals enables the use of molecular motion to control physical properties. Now, N‑heterocyclic carbene complexes form a basis for molecular gyroscopes in which solid-state emission is quenched by axle ...

Step‐Edge Functionalization by N‐Heterocyclic Carbenes Enhances Catalytic Activity in Electrochemical CO2 Reduction

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Atomically precise functionalization by N‐heterocyclic carbenes enhances the catalytic efficiency of macroscopically defined step edges toward electrochemical CO2${\rm CO}_2$ reduction. Sub‐molecular imaging reveals conformational differences between specific NHCs, which can be correlated with their catalytic performance. Photoelectron spectroscopy and

[3,3′-Dimesityl-1,1′-(4,5:16,17-dibenzo-3,6,9,12,15,18-hexaoxaeicosane-1,20-diyl)diimidazolin-2-ylidene]dithiocyanatopalladium(II)

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E, 2009
The coordination geometry of the Pd atom in the title compound, [Pd(SCN)2(C46H54N4O6)], is approximately square-planar. The N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) metallacrown ether ligand binds to the Pd atom in a trans orientation through the carbene C atoms of ...

Desymmetrization of N-Cbz glutarimides through N-heterocyclic carbene organocatalysis

open access: yesNature Communications, 2022
Desymmetrization of achiral building blocks is one of the most efficient ways to access enantiopure compounds of synthetic relevance. Here, the authors desymmetrize glutarimides with alcohols via an imide C–N bond cleavage under NHC organocatalysis.

Metal (n+1)p‐nd Orbital Hybridization and Excited‐State Metal–Ligand π‐Interactions Enable d10 Carbene‐Metal‐Amide TADF OLEDs with High Efficiency and Long Operational Lifetime

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We elucidate the key roles of metal p‐d orbital hybridization, excited‐state metal–ligand π‐interactions, and structural rotation in TADF of d10 CMA complexes. Introducing electron‐withdrawing or π‐extended ligand substituents weakens excited‐state metal‐ligand π‐interactions and improves kTADF, but may compromise emitter stability in device operation.
