Atroposelective Construction of Axially Chiral Tetraarylethenes Via NHC‐Catalyzed Desymmetrization

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We report the first NHC‐catalyzed atroposelective synthesis of axially chiral TAEs via oxidative desymmetrization of prochiral TAE dialdehydes. This catalytic strategy operates under mild conditions and accommodates a broad range of phenolic and nitrogen nucleophiles, delivering diverse axially chiral TAEs in good yields and up to 99% ee.

Quantifying Magnetic Anisotropy of Ferroelectric Fe(II) Square‐Pyramidal Systems Using Torque Magnetometry

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Five‐coordinate, square‐pyramidal Fe(II) complexes adopting polar, non‐centrosymmetric crystal structures exhibit exceptionally large easy‐axis magnetic anisotropy. Ligand‐driven distortions critically control the anisotropy, and the dielectric, Polarization vs Elecric field and piezo response studies confirm intrinsic polarization, positioning these ...

Hyperpolarization of [1‐13C]Ketoisocaproate‐d2 by Reversible Exchange with Parahydrogen Enables Profiling of Branched‐Chain‐Amino‐Acid Metabolism in Cellulo and in Vivo

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We report the fast generation of biocompatible solutions of highly 13C‐hyperpolarized (≈11%) partially‐deuterated ketoisocaproate within <6 min using spin‐lock‐induced crossing and reversible exchange with parahydrogen (SLIC‐SABRE). This enables rapid detection of branched‐chain‐amino‐acid transferase 1 (BCAT1) protein expression and investigation of ...

Regio- and enantioselective umpolung gem-difluoroallylation of hydrazones via palladium catalysis enabled by N-heterocyclic carbene ligand

open access: yesNature Communications, 2021
Installation of difluoroalkyl groups while also imparting stereochemical information is mostly only possible with organocatalytic methods that activate carbonyls.

Highly Robust but Surface-Active: N-Heterocyclic Carbene-Stabilized Au25 Nanocluster as a Homogeneous Catalyst

open access: yes, 2019
Surface organic ligands play a critical role in stabilizing atomically precise metal nanoclusters in solutions. However, it is still challenging to prepare highly robust ligated metal nanoclusters that are surface-active for liquid-phase ...

N-Heterocyclic carbene/Brønsted acid cooperative catalysis as a powerful tool in organic synthesis

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2012
The interplay between metals and N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) has provided a window of opportunities for the development of novel catalytic strategies within the past few years.

Thiazol-2-ylidenes as N-Heterocyclic carbene ligands with enhanced electrophilicity for transition metal catalysis

open access: yesCommunications Chemistry, 2022
N-heterocyclic carbenes are widely exploited as ligands in transition metal catalysis, but are largely limited to N-arylimidazolylidenes. Here, the authors report on the steric and electronic properties of thiazol-2-ylidenes, demonstrating that their ...

N-Heterocyclic Carbene Nitric Oxide Radicals

open access: yes, 2018
N-Heterocyclic carbene-stabilized nitric oxide radicals were prepared by direct addition of nitric oxide to two N-heterocyclic carbenes in solution phase. The compounds were fully characterized by X-ray crystallography and EPR. The nitric oxide moiety in
