Importance of receptor expression in the classification of novel ligands at the M2 muscarinic acetylcholine receptor

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 181, Issue 14, Page 2338-2350, July 2024.
Background and Purpose Affinity‐based, selective orthosteric ligands for the muscarinic acetylcholine receptors (mAChRs) are difficult to develop due to high sequence homology across the five subtypes. Selectivity can also be achieved via the selective activation of a particular subtype or signalling pathway.

Second Near‐Infrared Activatable Nitric Oxide Releasing Nanoactuators for Photothermal Combinational Modulation of Epileptogenic Focus

open access: yesSmall Structures, Volume 5, Issue 5, May 2024.
A second near‐infrared (NIR‐II) activatable nitric oxide (NO) releasing nanoactuator is designed for modulating epileptogenic focus microenvironment. The nanoactuator exhibits strong photothermal conversion effect and photoinduced NO release to produce heat to kill abnormally discharging nerve cells in epileptogenic focus and downregulate P ...

Muscarinic receptor binding and oxidative enzyme activities in the adult rat superior cervical ganglion: effects of 6-hydroxydopamine and nerve growth factor

open access: yes, 1983
Administration of 6-hydroxydopamine to adult rats results in changes in the superior cervical ganglion similar to those noted after axotomy; namely, a decrease in muscarinic receptor binding and increases in activities of the oxidative enzymes of the ...

Effect of the closed‐loop hippocampal low‐frequency stimulation on seizure severity, learning, and memory in pilocarpine epilepsy rat model

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 30, Issue 3, March 2024.
Applying closed‐loop low‐frequency DBS, immediately after seizure detection, reduced the seizure severity, improved memory, and restored the changes in power, coherence, and coupling of the LFP oscillations in the hippocampus and medial prefrontal cortex. These effects assigned the low‐frequency DBS as an effective antiepileptic treatment.

A comparison between the effects of scopolamine and methylscopolamine on exploration in rats [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
Two experiments compared the effects of equimolar doses (0.6 and 1.2 mg/kg) of scopolamine and its quaternary derivative methylscopolamine, on the behaviour of 50 male and 50 female albino rats in an exploration box comprising novel and familiar halves ...

Differential allosteric effects of 8-(N,N-diethylamino)octyl-3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoate-HCl (TMB-8) on muscarinic receptor subtypes

open access: yes, 1989
TMB-8, a putative inhibitor of intracellular calcium mobilization, prevents the binding of the muscarinic ligand N-[3H]methylscopolamine. The inhibition was observed in four tissues from guinea pig; cortex, heart, pancreas, and ileum, representing Ml ...
