Carcinogenicity of N-nitrosodiethylamine in hibernating and nonhibernating European hamsters.

Hibernating European hamsters reacted differently to sc injections of N-nitrosodiethylamine (DEN) than did European hamsters that were not hibernating. Hibernating animals tolerated higher dose levels but developed fewer neoplasms. In contrast, hibernating males had more pulmonary tumors than did the respective nonhibernators.

Hepatic lesions in Lebistes reticulatus induced by N-nitrosodiethylamine.

The effect of N-nitrosodiethylamine (NDEA) on the aquarium fish, Lebistes reticulatus (guppy) has been investigated. The aquarium water contained 10 to 200 parts per million of NDEA. The LC50/30 for NDEA was 100 ppm. Sub-chronic experiments were carried out using 25 and 50 ppm for 90 days.

Investigation on the combined action of N-nitrosodiethylamine with other carcinogens.

The results of this experiment suggest that chemical carcinogens other than N-nitrosamines, even at levels that are very low and not effective when given singly, can in some way contribute to th carcinogenicity of NDEA.
