Cellular Basis Of Nicotine-induced nAChr Upregulation [PDF]
The upregulation and preferential assembly of high sensitivity (α4)2(β2)3 neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) contribute to aspects of nicotine addiction such as sensitization and tolerance. The cellular mechanisms of these events, however, remain elusive.

Integral models in unramified mixed characteristic (0,2) of hermitian orthogonal Shimura varieties of PEL type, Part II [PDF]
We construct relative PEL type embeddings in mixed characteristic (0,2) between hermitian orthogonal Shimura varieties of PEL type. We use this to prove the existence of integral canonical models in unramified mixed characteristic (0,2) of hermitian orthogonal Shimura varieties of PEL type.

A Note about Stabilization in $A_\R(\D)$ [PDF]
It is shown that for $A_\R(\D)$ functions $f_1$ and $f_2$ with $$ \inf_{z\in\bar{\D}}(\abs{f_1(z)}+\abs{f_2(z)})\geq\delta>0 $$ and $f_1$ being positive on real zeros of $f_2$ then there exists $A_\R(\D)$ functions $g_2$ and $g_1,g_1^{-1}$ with and $$ g_1f_1+g_2f_2=1\quad\forall z\in\bar{\D}.

The helicity constraint in spherical shell dynamos [PDF]
The motivation for considering distributed large scale dynamos in the solar context is reviewed in connection with the magnetic helicity constraint. Preliminary accounts of 3-dimensional direct numerical simulations (in spherical shell segments) and simulations of 2-dimensional mean field models (in spherical shells) are presented.

The SuperNova Early Warning System [PDF]
A core collapse in the Milky Way will produce an enormous burst of neutrinos in detectors world-wide. Such a burst has the potential to provide an early warning of a supernova's appearance. I will describe the nature of the signal, the sensitivity of current detectors, and SNEWS, the SuperNova Early Warning System, a network designed to alert ...

The contribution of kinetic helicity to turbulent magnetic diffusivity [PDF]
Using numerical simulations of forced turbulence, it is shown that for magnetic Reynolds numbers larger than unity, i.e., beyond the regime of quasilinear theory, the turbulent magnetic diffusivity attains an additional negative contribution that is quadratic in the kinetic helicity.

High frequency QPOs: nonlinear oscillations in strong gravity [PDF]
Some of the more promising ideas about the origin of the high frequency variability (kHz QPOs) in the observed X-ray emissions of low-mass X-ray binaries are contrasted with less promising ones.

Remark on Tono's theorem about cuspidal curves [PDF]
We give an upper bound for the number of cusps of a plane affine or projective curve via its first Betti number.

The nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) is a member of the ligand‐gated ion channel superfamily which includes GABAA, 5HT3, NMDA and glycine receptors. Neuronal nAChR are found in many areas of the mammalian peripheral and central nervous systems including the autonomic ganglia, hippocampus and thalamus.

Pharmacological chaperoning of nAChRs: A therapeutic target for Parkinson's disease [PDF]
Chronic exposure to nicotine results in an upregulation of neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) at the cellular plasma membrane. nAChR upregulation occurs via nicotine-mediated pharmacological receptor chaperoning and is thought to contribute to the addictive properties of tobacco as well as relapse following smoking cessation.
