Mitochondrial Ca2+ uniporter haploinsufficiency leads to sexually dimorphic redox imbalance and metabolic remodelling in the mouse brain

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend The genetic inactivation of one Mcu allele leads to sex‐specific changes in neuronal function in adult mice, that is, the firing of action potentials and the relationship between cytosolic and mitochondrial Ca2+ levels. The ability to produce NAD(P)H by stimulated neural tissue is largely preserved in male mice but delayed in ...

Identification, purification and separation of different isozymes of NADP-specific malic enzyme from Tritrichomonas foetus.

open access: yes, 1993
Tritrichomonas foetus was found to contain NADP-specific malic enzyme. The activity was present in the cytosolic fraction and was about 5-fold higher in extracts of a metronidazole-resistant strain (KV1-1MR-100) than of the parent strain (KVc1 ...

Adaptive changes in enzyme activity and metabolic pathways in adipose tissue from meal-fed rats

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1966
A number of metabolic factors and the activity of a number of enzymes were determined in meal-fed (animals fed a single daily 2 hr meal) and nibbling (ad libitum-fed) rats.

Flavonoids as Inhibitors of NADP-Malic Enzyme and PEP Carboxylase from C4Plants

open access: yesBioscience, Biotechnology, and Biochemistry, 1996
The inhibitory effects of flavonoids on the activity of two photosynthetic enzymes such as phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (PEPCase) and NADP-dependent malic enzyme (NADP-ME) were evaluated. The glycosylation of hydroxyl groups on the flavonoids resulted in compounds that behaved as gradually weaker inhibitors with increased size of the substituent ...

Curcumin Attenuates Aroclor 1254‐Induced Oxidative, Genotoxic, and Apoptotic Alterations in HepG2 Cells

open access: yesJournal of Biochemical and Molecular Toxicology, Volume 40, Issue 7, July 2026.
In HepG2 cells, Aroclor 1254 induced oxidative stress, DNA damage, apoptosis, and mutagenicity; co‐treatment with curcumin restored antioxidant defenses (GSH/thiols; SOD, CAT, GPx, GR, TrxR), reduced ROS and comet/8‐OHdG readouts, and attenuated caspase activation, demonstrating curcumin's hepatoprotective and genoprotective modulation of PCB toxicity.

Biological roles of crop NADP-malic enzymes and molecular mechanisms involved in abiotic stress

open access: yes, 2011
The abiotic stress tolerance of plants is very important for plant growth, development, survival and functional performance. NADP-ME is one of the most important enzymes in plants.

Tyrosyl Residue at or Near the Active Site of Maize NADP-malic Enzyme

open access: yesPhotosynthetica, 1999
Incubation of maize NADP-malic enzyme with tetranitromethane (TNM) resulted in a total loss of enzyme activity. The loss of enzyme activity was not observed at pH 6.3 but at pH 8.0. NADP-malic enzyme was inactivated to almost 90 % by incubation with an 80-fold molar excess of TNM for 5 min at 30 °C. The substrate malate or Mg2+ alone gave no protection,

Sorafenib Restores Pentose Phosphate Pathway‐Related Redox Homeostasis via the c‐Raf/HSP90/G6PD Axis in Hepatic Ischemia‐Reperfusion Injury

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 7, July 2026.
Proposed mechanism of middle‐dose sorafenib modulates redox homeostasis via c‐Raf/HSP90/G6PD axis to attenuate hepatic IRI. This study demonstrates that middle‐dose sorafenib mitigates hepatic IRI through the c‐Raf/HSP90/G6PD axis to enhance pentose phosphate pathway‐mediated antioxidant defense and redox homeostasis, thereby alleviating inflammatory ...
