Limited proteolysis of maize NADP-malic enzyme.
The incubation of maize malic enzyme at 37 degrees C with trypsin at a ratio of 150:1 of malic enzyme to trypsin caused rapid and complete inactivation of enzyme activity. The inactivation was caused by fairly specific cleavage of the enzyme monomer (62 kDa) into 40 kDa and 20 kDa fragments.

Light-stimulated synthesis of NADP malic enzyme in leaves of maize.
Illumination of etiolated maize plants for 80 h brings about a 15-20-fold increase in activity of NADP malic enzyme (EC 1.1.1.40). Increases in NADP malic enzyme protein and in the level of translatable mRNA for this protein occur simultaneously with the activity increase.

Pyridoxal 5′‐phosphate (PLP) homeostasis relies on salvage enzymes, yet key metabolic branches remain undefined. We identify AKR1C isozymes as previously undescribed contributors that convert pyridoxal into pyridoxine or 4‐pyridoxolactone through reductase and dehydrogenase activities.

Malic acid is a potential biomass-derivable "building block" for chemical synthesis. Since wild-type Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains produce only low levels of malate, metabolic engineering is required to achieve efficient malate production with this ...

Magnesium deficiency-induced changes in organic acid metabolism of Citrus sinensis roots and leaves
Organic acid (OA) metabolisms are of fundamental importance but very limited data are available on the responses of plant OA metabolisms to Mg-deficiency. Seedlings of Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck cv. Xuegan were irrigated with Mg-deficient (0, 50, or 500

Fetal growth restriction is associated with placental metabolic adaptations. In small‐for‐gestational‐age placenta (SGA), cholesterol receptors and steroidogenic enzymes are upregulated, enhancing steroidogenesis. NAD salvage pathway is also increased to support NADP+/NADPH requirements.

Fumarate analogs act as allosteric inhibitors of the human mitochondrial NAD(P)+-dependent malic enzyme. [PDF]
Human mitochondrial NAD(P)+-dependent malic enzyme (m-NAD(P)-ME) is allosterically activated by the four-carbon trans dicarboxylic acid, fumarate. Previous studies have suggested that the dicarboxylic acid in a trans conformation around the carbon-carbon

Using 1H NMR metabolomics, we measured polar and lipid metabolites from human blood neutrophils from people with frailty (n = 31, mean age 84Y), people with rheumatoid arthritis (n = 16, mean age 55Y), robust older (n = 24, mean age 66Y) and healthy younger people (n = 21, mean age 22Y).

Malic enzyme : Its purification and characterization from Mucor circinelloides and occurrence in other oleaginous fungi [PDF]
Malic enzyme was purified 43-fold from Mucor circinelloides. The enzyme was dependent on Mg2+ or Mn2+ for activity, was not active with Dmalate and had a pH optimum at 7.8.

NADP-Dependent Malic Enzyme 1 Participates in the Abscisic Acid Response in Arabidopsis thaliana
Arabidopsis thaliana possesses three cytosolic (NADP-ME1-3) and one plastidic (NADP-ME4) NADP-dependent malic enzymes. NADP-ME2 and -ME4 show constitutive expression, in contrast to NADP-ME1 and -ME3, which are restricted to particular tissues.
