Molecular insights of p47phox phosphorylation dynamics in the regulation of NADPH oxidase activation and superoxide production [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Phagocyte superoxide production by a multicomponent NADPH oxidase is important in host defense against microbial invasion. However inappropriate NADPH oxidase activation causes inflammation.

NOX4 exacerbates Parkinson’s disease pathology by promoting neuronal ferroptosis and neuroinflammation

open access: yesNeural Regeneration Research
Parkinson’s disease is primarily caused by the loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra compacta. Ferroptosis, a novel form of regulated cell death characterized by iron accumulation and lipid peroxidation, plays a vital role in the death of ...

Exercise Training Ameliorates Renal Oxidative Stress in Rats with Chronic Renal Failure

open access: yesMetabolites, 2022
In patients with chronic kidney disease, exercise training with moderate intensity protects renal function and improves mortality. However, the mechanisms of the renal protective effects of exercise training in chronic kidney disease have not been ...

NADPH oxidase and enhanced superoxide generation in intrauterine undernourished rats: involvement of the renin-angiotensin system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Objective: We previously reported that intrauterine undernutrition increased the oxidative stress by decreasing superoxide dismutase activity. in the present study, we tested whether NADPH oxidase, xanthine oxidase, cyclooxygenase or nitric oxide ...

Roles of NADPH Oxidase in Occurrence of Gastric Damage and Expression of Cyclooxygenase-2 During Ischemia/Reperfusion in Rat Stomachs

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2009
NADPH oxidase is an enzyme that converts molecular oxygen into reactive oxygen species, which cause severe damage in several organs. Cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 is an inducible enzyme that is important in gastric mucosal defense and repair processes.

Regulation of reactive oxygen species during plant immunity through phosphorylation and ubiquitination of RBOHD. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) is critical for successful activation of immune responses against pathogen infection. The plant NADPH oxidase RBOHD is a primary player in ROS production during innate immunity. However, how RBOHD is negatively

Losartan metabolite EXP3179 blocks NADPH oxidase-mediated superoxide production by inhibiting protein kinase C: potential clinical implications in hypertension [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Oxidative stress plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of hypertension. The NADPH oxidase constitutes a major source of superoxide anion in phagocytic cells, and its activation is associated with matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-9 secretion by these ...

Crossroads between peripheral atherosclerosis, western-type diet and skeletal muscle pathophysiology: emphasis on apolipoprotein E deficiency and peripheral arterial disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory process that, in the presence of hyperlipidaemia, promotes the formation of atheromatous plaques in large vessels of the cardiovascular system.

NADPH Oxidase and Cardiac Failure [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Translational Research, 2010
Increases in oxidative stress in the heart play an important role in mediating hypertrophy, apoptosis, fibrosis, mitochondrial dysfunction, and the consequent development of heart failure. Although it has been widely believed that electron leakage from the mitochondrial electron transport chain is the primary source of oxidative stress in the failing ...

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.
