Valorization of Garcinia humilis Residues in Active Collagen/Starch Films for Biodegradable Packaging Applications

open access: yesPackaging Technology and Science, Volume 39, Issue 5, Page 517-531, May 2026.
Residues from Garcinia humilis were used to obtain a phenolic‐rich extract (GHRE) and incorporated into collagen–starch films. The addition of GHRE improved antioxidant activity, thermal stability and elasticity, while reducing water vapour permeability.

Extracts From Grapefruit (Citrus paradisi) Peel via Microwave‐Assisted and Conventional Extractions: Evaluation of Nosema Infection and Toxicity in Honey Bees

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 3, May 2026.
Conventional and microwave‐assisted extractions of grapefruit peels were optimized using response surface methodology (RSM) based on TPC, TFC, and antioxidant activity (DPPH). The phytochemical profiles of the two optimum extracts were characterized via HPLC before evaluating their acute and chronic toxicity, as well as their effects on honey bee (Apis

Gap Analysis of Metabolic Conversions of Off‐Flavors and Antinutrients in Plant‐Based Substrates

open access: yesComprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety, Volume 25, Issue 3, May 2026.
ABSTRACT To drastically reduce the carbon footprint of the food production chain, a major shift towards alternatives to conventional meat and dairy products is required. The use of plant‐based proteins is a promising route, but it also comes with challenges: Plant‐based proteins often contain antinutritional factors and off‐flavors, which can ...

Opening closed inward rectifier potassium channel doors

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 10, Page 2197-2218, May 2026.
Inwardly rectifying potassium (KIR) channels are essential regulators of membrane potential in excitable and non‐excitable tissues. Although KIR channels exhibit a biophysical preference for potassium influx due to voltage‐dependent block of outward current by polyamines and Mg2+, under physiological conditions, they predominantly mediate K+ efflux ...

WRKY Transcription Factors: Integral Regulators of Defence Responses to Biotic Stress in Crops

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 5, Page 2939-2955, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Crops are continually challenged by biotic stresses, including fungal, bacterial and viral pathogens and insect pests, which cause substantial yield and quality losses worldwide. WRKY transcription factors constitute a plant‐specific and functionally diverse family that is central to immune regulation.

Naringenin Targets PI3K p85alpha to Suppress PI3K/AKT Signaling Pathway and Ameliorate Disordered MMP-9 Secretion in Cigarette Smoke Extract-Induced Alveolar Macrophages In Vitro

open access: yesCells
Background: Naringenin has demonstrated potential therapeutic effects against cigarette smoke-induced lung injury; however, its underlying mechanisms of regulating matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) in alveolar macrophages remain unclear.

Naringenin modulates the metastasis of human prostate cancer cells by down regulating the matrix metalloproteinases -2/-9 via ROS/ERK1/2 pathways

open access: yesBangladesh Journal of Pharmacology, 2014
Metastasis is a multifactorial condition that complicates cancer treatment options and widens the target of treatment. Matrix mettalopriteinases (MMPs) of the extracellular matrix (ECM) are involved in metastasis, thus they present as potential targets ...
