THE NATURE OF THE LAMPREY VISUAL PIGMENT [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of General Physiology, 1956
From the retina of the land-locked population of the sea lamprey, Petromyzon marinus, a photolabile pigment was extracted which was identified spectrophotometrically as a member of the rhodopsin group of pigments. Using the absorption spectrum of a relatively pure solution and analysis by means of difference spectra, the peak of this pigment was placed

Bacterial Pigments: The Bioactivities and as an Alternative for Therapeutic Applications

open access: yesNatural Product Communications, 2018
Synthetic pigments have been widely used in various applications since the 1980s. However, the hyperallergenicity or carcinogenicity effects of synthetic dyes have led to the increased research on natural pigments.

THE NATURE OF THE GECKO VISUAL PIGMENT [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of General Physiology, 1956
Retinal extracts of the Australian gecko, Phyllurus milii (White), have revealed the presence of a photosensitive pigment, unusual for terrestrial animals, because of its absorption maximum at 524 mµ. This pigment has an absorption spectrum which is identical in form with that of other visual chromoproteins.

From Food to Power: Hydrogel Thermoelectrics for Ingestible Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce a fully edible thermoelectric–electrochromic platform that harvests heat from food and converts it into a visible color change. N‐type and p‐type hydrogel thermoelectric generators connected in series power anthocyanin‐based electrochromic displays, demonstrating the feasibility of safe, biodegradable, ingestible systems for on‐food ...

Mechanically Mutable Matrices: A Hierarchical Investigation of Decellularized Sea Cucumber Collagen as an Adaptable Scaffold Material

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Sea cucumber mutable collagenous tissue (MCT) is a remarkable collagen‐based material which can rapidly undergo large changes in stiffness through transiently bound effector proteins. Here, we investigate the hierarchical structure and mechanical response of MCT from Cucumaria frondosa across length scales with a wide range of methods, also exploring ...

Valorization of novel bifunctional waterborne coatings with UV irradiation resistance and antimicrobial activity

open access: yesScientific Reports
This research aimed to create bifunctional acrylic waterborne coatings capable of absorbing UV radiation and resisting microbial growth. The compound 4-[2(3-acetylphenyl) diazenyl]-3,5-dimethylphenol (ADD) was incorporated into the waterborne acrylic ...

Silicone Phase Behavior Resolves the Softness–Surface Functionality Trade‐Off in Emerging Stretchable Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ultrasoft silicone elastomers often sacrifice surface functionality for mechanical compliance. In Mold Star, low‐molecular‐weight species form a dispersed phase that weakens the network and passivates the surface. Solvent extraction removes this phase, unexpectedly improving both extensibility and metallization performance, enabling conductive ...

Green synthesis of TA@AgNPs and their use as antimicrobial agents in PVA/Collagen biofilms for potential wound dressing applications

open access: yesDiscover Materials
In this research, tannic acid-decorated silver nanoparticles (TA@AgNPs) were prepared in situ in aqueous media. Tannic acid (TA) was used as a green reducing and stabilizing agent for AgNPs.
