Identification of (20R)‐protopanaxadiol from Panax ginseng as a novel anti‐SARS‐CoV‐2 compound

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We established a noninfectious BAC‐based SARS‐CoV‐2 replicon that enables antiviral screening under BSL‐2 conditions. Using this platform, we screened 373 food‐derived compounds and identified (20R)‐protopanaxadiol from Panax ginseng as a novel inhibitor of SARS‐CoV‐2 RNA replication, highlighting the value of safe replicon systems for antiviral ...

Toxicity of cephalaria species and their individual constituents against aedes aegypti [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Crude acetone and ethanol extracts of the aerial parts of 21 Cephalaria species collected from Turkey were investigated for larvicidal and adult topical activity against Aedes aegypti. The ethanol extracts from C. Elazigensis var. purpurea, C. Anatolica,

De novo synthesis of short‐chain aldehydes and hydrocarbons secreted by the brown marmorated stink bug Halyomorpha halys

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The brown marmorated stink bug, Halyomorpha halys, mainly secretes 4‐oxo‐(E)‐2‐hexenal, (E)‐2‐decenal, dodecane and tridecane, a mixture representative of that released by many heteropterans. We demonstrated that H. halys can synthesise these secretory components de novo using dietary glucose.

Essential oil composition of pimpinella cypria and its insecticidal, cytotoxic, and antimicrobial activity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A water-distilled essential oil (EO) from the aerial parts of Pimpinella cypria Boiss. (Apiaceae), an endemic species in northern Cyprus, was analyzed by GCFID and GC-MS. Forty-five compounds were identified in the oil, which comprised 81.7% of the total

Avidin is evolutionarily conserved in fish but dispensable for development and resistance against Streptococcus agalactiae in zebrafish

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The presence of biotin‐binding avidin proteins in fish and their biological significance are poorly characterized. We cataloged fish avidins and demonstrate that they are widely present and evolutionarily conserved. We created avd knockout zebrafish and show that zebavidin is dispensable for development and that resistance of avd knockout embryos in ...

Eupatorium capillifolium essential oil: Chemical composition, antifungal activity, and insecticidal activity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
PubMed: 20922999Natural plant extracts often contain compounds that are useful in pest management applications. The essential oil of Eupatorium capillifolium (dog-fennel) was investigated for antifungal and insecticidal activities. Essential oil obtained

A Natural Rubber–Based Adhesive Dressing Enriched With Rhodomyrtus tomentosa Leaf Extract Exhibiting Antioxidant, Anti-Inflammatory, and Antibacterial Activities Against Acne-Causing Bacteria

open access: yesAdvances in Pharmacological and Pharmaceutical Sciences
An acne treatment patch was developed by incorporating Rhodomyrtus tomentosa (RT) leaf extract into hyaluronic acid serum, followed by integration with high-quality block natural rubber using a two-roll milling process. RT hyaluronic acid serum exhibited

Aging Is a Key Driver for Adult Acute Myeloid Leukemia

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a classical age‐related hematologic malignancy, and a key driver of AML is aging, which profoundly regulates intrinsic factors such as genomic instability, epigenetic reprogramming, and metabolic dysregulation, and alters bone marrow microenvironment.
