THE PRODUCTION AND NATURE OF STREPTOCOLYSIN. [PDF]

open access: yesJAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1903
In 1897 Bordet1drew attention to the fact that there generally is more or less hemolysis in the blood of a rabbit which has died of streptococcus infection. This hemolysis is not constantly observed, but was present, for instance, in 37 of 40 rabbits dying of streptococcus infection, in which it was looked for in this laboratory during the last eight ...

Natural products in endodontics

open access: yesSaudi Medical Journal, 2018
Herbal remedies are used throughout the world, either in earlier or in recent times. The number of studies on this alternative therapeutic system increased in the last decades. In this paper, the relevant literature on the use of natural products in root canal therapy is revised from a MEDLINE database search.

Combining transient dynamics and logistic‐asymptotic growth to study the recovery of two seabird populations after rat eradication

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
This study examines the demographic dynamics of two seabird populations on Tromelin Island, 15 years after the eradication of brown rats. The results indicate that these populations are in good health and are expected to continue growing until breeding sites are saturated in about a century.

The unpredictably eruptive dynamics of spruce budworm populations in eastern Canada

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
We examine historical population data for spruce budworm from several locations through the period 1930–1997, and use density‐dependent recruitment curves to test whether the pattern of population growth over time is more consistent with Royama's (1984; Ecological Monographs 54:429–462) linear R(t) model of harmonic oscillation at Green River New ...

Phytochemicals and Estrogen-Receptor Agonists from the Aerial Parts of Liriope platyphylla

open access: yesMolecules, 2015
One new benzofuran, (2R)-(2',4'-dihydroxybenzyl)-6,7-methylenedioxy-2,3-dihydrobenzofuran (1), one new phenylisocoumarin, 3-(2'-hydroxyphenyl)-6,8-dihydroxy-7-methoxy-isocoumarin (2), and one new benzofuroisocoumarin, platyphyllarin C (3), were isolated ...

Network topology drives population temporal variability in experimental habitat networks

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
Habitat patches connected by dispersal pathways form habitat networks. We explored how network topology affects population outcomes in laboratory experiments using a model species (Daphnia carinata). Central habitat nodes in complex lattice networks exhibited lower temporal variability in population sizes, suggesting they support more stable ...

A Review on the Edible Bird’s Nest Quality and Manufacturing Standards of the Three Largest Exporting Countries in the World

open access: yesJournal of Food Quality
Edible bird’s nest (EBN) is an animal product with the world’s highest market price due to its value. The nests are made exclusively from the saliva secreted by swiftlet, a species of bird native to Southeast Asia.

Induction of PR-10 genes and metabolites in strawberry plants in response to Verticillium dahliae infection

open access: yesBMC Plant Biology, 2019
Background The soil-borne vascular pathogen Verticillium dahliae causes severe wilt symptoms in a wide range of plants including strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa). To enhance our understanding of the effects of V.

Translating CO $$_2$$ 2 variability in a plant growth system into plant dynamics

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Plant growth occurs owing to the continuous interactions between environmental and genetic factors, and the analysis of plant growth provides crucial information on plant responses.

Hyperspectral Imaging-Based Multiple Predicting Models for Functional Component Contents in Brassica juncea

open access: yesAgriculture, 2022
Partial least squares regression (PLSR) prediction models were developed using hyperspectral imaging for noninvasive detection of the five most representative functional components in Brassica juncea leaves: chlorophyll, carotenoid, phenolic ...
