"Almost" Implies "Near" [PDF]

open access: yesTransactions of the American Mathematical Society, 1986
We formulate a formal language in which it is meaningful to say that an object almost satisfies a property. We then show that any object which almost satisfies a property is near an object which exactly satisfies the property. We show how this principle can be used to prove existence theorems.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Tema nou-testamentară a apropierii și întârzierii parusiei în Evul Mediu

open access: yesTheoRhēma, 2018
The article surveys the medieval reception of the NT message that the second coming of Jesus or the end of the world is near and how Christians during this time span coped with the delay of the Parousia.

Reduction of Uncertainties for Damage Identification of Bridge Based on Fuzzy Nearness and Modal Data

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2012
To avoid the false results of deterministic identification methods induced by uncertainties, a fuzzy nearness-based method is proposed for the damage identification of bridge.

PICALM::MLLT10 translocated leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This comprehensive review of PICALM::MLLT10 translocated acute leukemia provides an in‐depth review of the structure and function of CALM, AF10, and the fusion oncoprotein (1). The multifaceted molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis, including nucleocytoplasmic shuttling (2), epigenetic modifications (3), and disruption of endocytosis (4), are then ...

Properties and Indicators of Ethical Propositions in Quran and Hadith [PDF]

open access: yesاخلاق وحیانی, 2016
In Islamic ethical propositions, ethical orders signify the desirability of their subjects and their positive or negative relation to happiness, but in the ethical propositions included in Quran and Hadith there is hardly any instance of these concepts ...

Near-death experiences [PDF]

open access: yesThe Lancet, 1994
Reactions to claims of near-death experiences (NDE) range from the popular view that this must be evidence for life after death, to outright rejection of the experiences as, at best, drug induced hallucinations or, at worse, pure invention. Twenty years, and much research, later, it is clear that neither extreme is correct.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
