Challenges in Treating Statin-Associated Necrotizing Myopathy
Myalgia and mild elevation in muscle enzymes are common side effects of statin therapy. While these symptoms are generally self-limited, in rare cases, statin use is associated with an immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy caused by development of ...

Identifying statin-associated autoimmune necrotizing myopathy
Statins up-regulate expression of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase (HMGCR), the rate-limiting enzyme in cholesterol synthesis and the major target of autoantibodies in statin-associated immune-mediated necrotizing myopathy. As muscle cells regenerate, they express high levels of HMGCR, which may sustain the immune response even after ...

Clinical Features and Treatment Outcomes of Necrotizing Autoimmune Myopathy [PDF]
Necrotizing autoimmune myopathy (NAM) is characterized pathologically by necrotic muscle fibers with absent or minimal inflammation. It is often accompanied by statin therapy, connective tissue diseases, cancer, and autoantibodies specific for signal recognition particle (SRP) or 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase (HMGCR). Data are limited

Statin-induced autoimmune necrotizing myopathy with pharyngeal muscles involvement [PDF]
Abstract Statins are widely prescribed in the treatment of hypercholesterolemia. While their efficacy in the secondary prevention of vascular events is proven, their safety profile in older patients with multiple co-morbidities and polypharmacy remains questionable.

Necrotizing autoimmune myopathy: an emerging entity in the spectrum of inflammatory myopathies [PDF]
Background: Necrotizing autoimmune myopathy is a relatively newly recognized rare form of idiopathic inflammatory myopathy. It presents clinically with symmetrical proximal muscle pain and weakness, associated with a markedly elevated Creatine kinase level. These myopathies are usually immune mediated with a good response to immunotherapy.

Autoimmune necrotizing myopathy after statin discontinuation
We report a case of autoimmune necrotizing myopathy related to statin use in a 70-year-old woman who came to the hospital because of progressive lower extremity weakness. Laboratory, electromyography and muscle biopsy results were consistent with autoimmune necrotising myopathy.

This review highlights changes relevant to pathologists in the updated multidisciplinary classification of interstitial pneumonias. Changes include expansion beyond idiopathic disease, subclassification as interstitial (fibrotic vs non‐fibrotic) and alveolar filling disorders, expansion to include additional patterns (e.g.

Objective Several case reports have proposed a potential association between COVID‐19 vaccination and the subsequent development of idiopathic inflammatory myositis (IIM). This study examined prior COVID‐19 vaccination in US veterans who developed new‐onset IIM compared to those without new‐onset IIM.

A case of autoimmune induced necrotizing myopathy
A 31-year-old female, with no previous past medical history, presented to the emergency department (ED) two weeks after falling while moving furniture complaining of increasing weakness and swelling. Initially, she had minor ankle pain after falling but this progressed to bilateral ankle pain and eventually bilateral shoulder pain. Creatine Kinase (CK)

Objective Our objective was to identify and describe the clinical characteristics and outcomes in patients with pre‐existing idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIMs) in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). Methods All veterans receiving ICI infusions were identified.
