Early-life homeostatic differentiation of thymus-resident B cells into memory B cells
The thymus contains various antigen-presenting cells, including B cells, which remain activated even under steady-state conditions, suggesting ongoing local stimulation. In this study, we identify class-switched memory B cells in the thymus.

Molecular Evolution of the Protease Region in Norovirus Genogroup II
Noroviruses are a major cause of viral epidemic gastroenteritis in humans worldwide. The protease (Pro) encoded in open reading frame 1 (ORF1) is an essential enzyme for proteolysis of the viral polyprotein.

Optimal securities under adverse selection and moral hazard [PDF]
We consider project financing under adverse selection and moral hazard and derive several interesting results. First, we provide an explanation of why good firms issue both debt and underpriced equity (even if the bankruptcy and agency costs of debt are ...

Negative Clonal Selection in Tumor Evolution [PDF]
Abstract Development of cancer requires the acquisition of multiple oncogenic mutations and selection of the malignant clone. Cancer evolves within a finite host lifetime and mechanisms of carcinogenesis that accelerate this process may be more likely to contribute to the development of clinical cancers.

Effect of sources of sweetpotato planting material for quality vine and root yield
Commercialization of sweetpotato vines is persistent if multipliers show evidence of superiority of their vines. This study aimed at evaluating the effects of net tunnel source and of pathogen-tested planting material compared to “apparently” healthy ...

Conformational Plasticity of HLA-B27 Molecules Correlates Inversely With Efficiency of Negative T Cell Selection [PDF]
The development of autoimmune disorders is incompletely understood. Inefficient thymic T cell selection against self-peptides presented by major histocompatibility antigens (HLA in humans) may contribute to the emergence of auto-reactive effector cells ...

Thymic crosstalk coordinates medulla organization and T-cell tolerance induction
The thymus ensures the generation of a functional and highly diverse T-cell repertoire. The thymic medulla, which is mainly composed of medullary thymic epithelial cells (mTECs) and dendritic cells (DCs), provides a specialized microenvironment dedicated

Self-selection patterns in Mexico-U.S. migration: the role of migration networks [PDF]
This paper examines the role of migration networks in determining self-selection patterns of Mexico-U.S. migration. We first present a simple theoretical framework showing how such networks impact on migration incentives at different education levels ...
