miR-155-5p Silencing Does Not Alter BTLA Molecule Expression in CLL T Cells: Implications for Targeted Immunotherapy

open access: yesBiomolecules
Given that we have demonstrated that miR-155-5p is increased in CLL PBMCs and that its reduction with inhibitory siRNA partially restores the immune checkpoint BTLA protein level in CLL B cells, risk stratification for using anti-miR-155-based ...

Genetic variation of the gene coding for microRNA-204 (miR-204) is a risk factor in acute myeloid leukaemia

open access: yesBMC Cancer, 2018
Background MicroRNAs (miRNAs or miRs) are small molecules known to be involved in post-transcriptional gene expression. Many of them have been shown to influence risk for various diseases.

Genetic variation at MECOM, TERT, JAK2 and HBS1L-MYB predisposes to myeloproliferative neoplasms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Clonal proliferation in myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) is driven by somatic mutations in JAK2, CALR or MPL, but the contribution of inherited factors is poorly characterized. Using a three-stage genome-wide association study of 3,437 MPN cases and 10,

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Prevalence of neoplasms in patients with acromegaly – the need for a national registry

open access: yesAnnals of Agricultural and Environmental Medicine, 2018
Introduction Acromegaly is an endocrine disorder caused predominantly by pituitary adenoma leading to autonomic oversecretion of growth hormone and secondary elevation of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1).

Ladarixin, a dual CXCR1/2 inhibitor, attenuates experimental melanomas harboring different molecular defects by affecting malignant cells and tumor microenvironment. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
CXCR1 and CXCR2 chemokine receptors and their ligands (CXCL1/2/3/7/8) play an important role in tumor progression. Tested to date CXCR1/2 antagonists and chemokine-targeted antibodies were reported to affect malignant cells in vitro and in animal models.

Therapeutic strategies for MMAE‐resistant bladder cancer through DPP4 inhibition

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We established monomethyl auristatin E (MMAE)‐resistant bladder cancer (BC) cell lines by exposure to progressively increasing concentrations of MMAE in vitro. RNA sequencing showed DPP4 expression was increased in MMAE‐resistant BC cells. Both si‐DPP4 and the DPP4 inhibitor sitagliptin suppressed the viability of MMAE‐resistant BC cells.

P211 | NEUTROPHIL-TO-LYMPHOCYTES RATIOS CAN PREDICT OUTCOMES AND TREATMENT RESPONSE IN MYELOFIBROSIS PATIENTS: A SINGLE-CENTER RETROSPECTIVE STUDY

open access: yesHaematologica
Background: Myelofibrosis (MF) is the most symptomatic form of MPN and carries the worst outcome. Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) and systemic inflammation response index

Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.
