Sono‐Mechanogenetics: Linking Ultrasound Physics With Cellular Mechanobiology

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Sono‐mechanogenetics links ultrasound physics with cellular mechanotransduction to enable noninvasive control of engineered biological systems. Acoustic forces generate distinct deformation modes that activate intracellular signaling pathways, which can be coupled to synthetic gene circuits to regulate diverse cellular functions, including gene ...

Highly Bioadaptable Hybrid Conduits with Spatially Bidirectional Structure for Precision Nerve Fiber Regeneration via Gene Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Peripheral nerve deficits give rise to motor and sensory impairments within the limb. The clinical restoration of extensive segmental nerve defects through autologous nerve transplantation often encounters challenges such as axonal mismatch and ...

In Situ Stress‐Dispersing Hydrogel Millispheres via Load Redistribution to Restore Nucleus Pulposus Metabolic Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Local stress concentration disrupts metabolic homeostasis and induces inflammation in the nucleus pulposus (NP), thereby accelerating intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD). A biomimetic HA/ChS hydrogel millimeter sphere (ChS@HM) is developed to enable synergistic stress dispersion and sustained hydration lubrication.

Expression of neuropeptides – galanin and Reg2 - in subcategories of nociceptors after nerve injury

open access: yes, 2010
PhDNeuropeptides show dynamic changes in expression after nerve injury, and have been implicated in chronic pain states. I sought to compare expression of two peptides which are upregulated after nerve injury, galanin and Reg2, and to determine the ...

Pattern of Spine Degenerative Disease Among Patients Referred for Lumbar Magnetic Resonance Imaging at Muhimbili National Hospital, Dar es salaam, Tanzania March-September-2010. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Background Degenerative disease of the lumbar spine refers to a syndrome in which an intervertebral disk with adjacent spine structures are compromised. This causes low back and lower extremity pain.

Noninvasive Focal Gene Delivery into the Cerebellum of Non‐Human Primates using Focused Ultrasound

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Focal and non‐invasive viral vector delivery in non‐human primates remains a major challenge in translational neuroscience. Low‐intensity focused ultrasound was used to transiently open the blood–brain barrier and enable targeted gene delivery to the cerebellum.
