Application of Nested Polymerase Chain Reaction to Detection of Salmonella in Poultry Environment

open access: yesJournal of Food Protection, 2002
Isolation of Salmonella from environmental and processing-plant poultry samples requires the sampling of large numbers of areas within the poultry house or plant. Subsequently, the required number of samples necessitates a large volume of work for a microbiology laboratory, especially when the protocol requires the inclusion of a delayed secondary ...

Relationships Between European Wildcats and Domestic Cats in an Area of Sympatry: Exploring Key Conservation Questions on Hybridization and Disease Transmission

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, EarlyView.
We have found evidence of behavioural barriers for both hybridization and disease transmission between European wildcats and domestic cats. This includes hierarchical interspecies exclusion enforced by wildcats, as well as sexual selection exerted by wildcat females.

A novel selective stabilizer of the ryanodine receptor 2 prevents stress‐induced ventricular arrhythmias without impairing cardiac function

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Purpose Aberrant activation of type 2 ryanodine receptors (RyR2) causes lethal arrhythmias, such as catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (CPVT). Developing drugs that suppress RyR2 hyperactivation may be key to novel arrhythmia treatments.
