Oviposition Behaviour, Nymphal Development and Below‐Ground Olfactory Preference of Pentastiridius leporinus on 12 Beta vulgaris Genotypes

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The planthopper Pentastiridius leporinus (Hemiptera: Cixiidae) is the primary vector of two phloem‐restricted prokaryotes, which can cause the disease syndrome de basses richesses (SBR) in sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.). Heavy infestations of this insect have contributed to significant yield losses in Central Europe, but little is known about ...

Clarithromycin-based therapy with adjunctive photobiomodulation and microwave treatment for cutaneous Mycobacterium marinum infection

open access: yesPhotodiagnosis and Photodynamic Therapy
Background: Cutaneous Mycobacterium marinum (M. marinum) infection poses substantial diagnostic and therapeutic challenges and often necessitates prolonged multidrug antibiotic regimens, which are frequently associated with poor adherence and potential ...

Improved Detection of Mycobacterium leprae by One-tube Nested Polymerase Chain Reaction

open access: yes, 2007
One-tube nested polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was evaluated for its efficacy in detecting Mycobacterium leprae in biopsy samples from leprosy patients. Primers were derived from the M.

Detection of North American West Nile Virus in Animal Tissue by a Reverse Transcription-Nested Polymerase Chain Reaction Assay

open access: yes, 2001
A traditional single-stage reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) procedure is effective in determining West Nile (WN) virus in avian tissue and infected cell cultures.

‘It's not much, but it's honest work’: The status of environmental DNA analyses of fish biodiversity in southern Africa

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Environmental DNA (eDNA) biodiversity surveys have the power to transform the detection of species in natural environments, which is crucial for the conservation and management of freshwater, estuarine and marine environments. Globally, eDNA‐based analyses have increased significantly, with fishes being the most widely studied aquatic ...

Evaluation of nested Polymerase Chain Reaction targeting hup B gene in the diagnosis of tubercular ascites

open access: yes, 2012
Abdominal tuberculosis usually has nonspecific presentation, frequently mimicking other diseases. Because of the limitations of the conventional methods of diagnosis of extra pulmonary tuberculosis, focus is shifted to molecular methods.

A new Hyphessobrycon (Characiformes: Acestrorhamphidae) of the Hyphessobrycon agulha lineage of Hyphessobryconinae from the lower Aripuanã basin, Brazil, with comments about the lineage

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract A new species of Hyphessobrycon is described from a tributary of Rio Jatuarana, lower Rio Aripuanã basin, Rio Madeira basin, Apuí, Amazonas. The new species is part of the Hyphessobrycon agulha lineage, with the typical midlateral narrow black stripe immediately followed dorsally by an iridescent stripe.

Divergent exploratory‐avoidant behavioural strategies may drive niche differentiation in juvenile Antarctic fishes

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract We used an ecological niche theory framework integrating physiological and behavioural ecology to understand interspecific differentiation of juveniles of four Antarctic fishes: Trematomus bernacchii, Trematomus pennellii, Trematomus nicolai and Pagothenia borchgrevinki.
