Exosomes as mediators of neuroinflammation [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Neuroinflammation, 2014
Exosomes are membrane-bound nanovesicles that are shed by cells of various lineages under normal as well as pathological conditions. Previously thought to be 'extracellular debris', exosomes have recently generated immense interest following their discovery as mediators of intercellular communication by delivering functional proteins, mRNA transcripts ...

Structural cortical network reorganization associated with early conversion to multiple sclerosis

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
Brain structural covariance networks (SCNs) based on pairwise statistical associations of cortical thickness data across brain areas reflect underlying physical and functional connections between them.

Generation of IgG-Fc Glycovariants Using Recombinant Glycosidases and Glycosyltransferases

open access: yesBio-Protocol, 2016
The immunoglobulin G (IgG) fragment crystallizable (Fc) domain contains a single, highly conserved asparagine 297 (N297) glycosylation site in the CH2 domain, which is buried within the hydrophobic core of each of the two heavy chains.

Microglia Contribution to the Regulation of the Retinal and Choroidal Vasculature in Age-Related Macular Degeneration

open access: yesCells, 2020
The retina is a highly metabolically active tissue with high-level consumption of nutrients and oxygen. This high metabolic demand requires a properly developed and maintained vascular system.

Bilirubin Targeting WNK1 to Alleviate NLRP3‐Mediated Neuroinflammation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
At physiological concentrations, bilirubin binds to the kinase domain of WNK1, thereby augmenting its activity and facilitating the phosphorylation of downstream SPAK/OSR1. This phosphorylation inhibits KCC2 activity, leading to elevate intracellular chloride levels in neurons.

Magnetisation transfer ratio combined with magnetic resonance neurography is feasible in the proximal lumbar plexus using healthy volunteers at 3T

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
Magnetic resonance neurography (MRN) has been used extensively to study pathological conditions affecting the peripheral nervous system (PNS).

Enhancer Profiling Reveals a Protective Role of RXRα Against Calcium Oxalate‐Induced Crystal Deposition and Kidney Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Comprehensive epigenomic and transcriptomic profiling revealed a dynamic enhancer landscape and gene expression program associated with nephrolithiasis, highlighting RXRα as a central transcription factor in this regulatory network. Tubular‐specific deletion of RXRα increased intrarenal CaOx crystal deposition, while its activation with Bexarotene ...

A model of fractional-order diffusion in the glial scar [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
Implantation of neuroprosthetic electrodes induces a stereotypical state of neuroinflammation, which is thought to be detrimental for the neurons surrounding the electrode. Mechanisms of this type of neuroinflammation are still not understood well. Recent experimental and theoretical results point out possible role of the diffusion species in this ...

High Fat Low Carbohydrate Diet Is Linked to CNS Autoimmunity Protection

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mapping global epidemiological data to macronutrient supply reveals high carbohydrate, in contrast to high fat supply, associates with increased multiple sclerosis (MS) prevalence and incidence. This is confirmed in a mouse MS model, experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), using isocaloric diets: a high carbohydrate diet aggravates, a high ...

Neuroinflammation and psychiatric illness [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Neuroinflammation, 2013
Multiple lines of evidence support the pathogenic role of neuroinflammation in psychiatric illness. While systemic autoimmune diseases are well-documented causes of neuropsychiatric disorders, synaptic autoimmune encephalitides with psychotic symptoms often go under-recognized.
