Inflammation in ALS and SMA: Sorting out the good from the evil
Indices of neuroinflammation are found in a variety of diseases of the CNS including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and spinal muscular atrophy (SMA).

A Boolean complete neural model of adaptive behavior [PDF]
A multi-layered neural assembly is developed which has the capability of learning arbitrary Boolean functions. Though the model neuron is more powerful than those previously considered, assemblies of neurons are needed to detect non-linearly separable ...

A neural mechanism for binaural pitch perception via ghost stochastic resonance
We present a physiologically plausible binaural mechanism for the perception of the pitch of complex sounds via ghost stochastic resonance. In this scheme, two neurons are driven by noise and different periodic signal each (with frequencies f1=kf0 and f2=

Somatic mutational landscape in von Hippel–Lindau familial hemangioblastoma
The causes of central nervous system (CNS) hemangioblastoma in Von Hippel–Lindau (vHL) disease are unclear. We used Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) on familial hemangioblastoma to investigate events that underlie tumor development. Our findings suggest that VHL loss creates a permissive environment for tumor formation, while additional alterations ...

Cyclin F can alter the turnover of TDP-43
Previously, we demonstrated that the SCFcyclin F complex directly mediates the poly-ubiquitylation of TDP-43, raising the question of whether cyclin F can be used to enhance the turnover of TDP-43.

Targeted therapy was evaluated in SHH medulloblastoma using neuroepithelial stem cell (NES) and tumor‐derived NES‐like (tNES) models in 2D monolayers and 3D spheroids. PI3K, AKT, and CDK4/6 inhibitors had minimal effects in NES but markedly reduced viability and growth and induced apoptosis in tNES cells, revealing distinct therapeutic vulnerabilities.

Hardware design of LIF with Latency neuron model with memristive STDP synapses
In this paper, the hardware implementation of a neuromorphic system is presented. This system is composed of a Leaky Integrate-and-Fire with Latency (LIFL) neuron and a Spike-Timing Dependent Plasticity (STDP) synapse.

Lysosomes support diverse cellular functions by acting as sites of macromolecule degradation and nutrient recycling. The degradative abilities of lysosomes are conferred by a lumen that is characterized by an acidic pH and which contains numerous hydrolases that support the breakdown of major cellular macromolecules to yield cellular building blocks ...

Pancreatic sensory neurons innervating healthy and PDAC tissue were retrogradely labeled and profiled by single‐cell RNA sequencing. Tumor‐associated innervation showed a dominant neurofilament‐positive subtype, altered mitochondrial gene signatures, and reduced non‐peptidergic neurons.
