Neuronal Migration Disorders

Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities Research Reviews, 2001
AbstractNeuronal migration disorders are a category of developmental brain disorders leading to cortical dysplasia. This group of disorders is characterized by defective movement of neurons from the place of origin along the lining of the lateral ventricle, to the eventual place of residence in the correct laminar position within the cerebral cortex ...

New Trends in Neuronal Migration Disorders

European Journal of Paediatric Neurology, 2010
Neuronal migration disorders are an heterogeneous group of disorders of nervous system development and they are considered to be one of the most significant causes of neurological and developmental disabilities and epileptic seizures in childhood. In the last ten years, molecular biologic and genetic investigations have widely increased our knowledge ...

Molecular Genetics of Neuronal Migration Disorders

Current Neurology and Neuroscience Reports, 2011
Cortical malformations associated with defects in neuronal migration result in severe developmental consequences including intractable epilepsy and intellectual disability. Genetic causes of migration defects have been identified with the advent and widespread use of high-resolution MRI and genetic techniques.

Neuronal Migration Disorders

Journal of Child Neurology, 2005
Improvement in imaging techniques has provided new classifications of neuronal migration disorders and their diagnosis in the developing or adult brain. Control of neuronal migration involves different cell populations, including Cajal-Retzius neurons, subplate neurons, neuronal precursors, or radial glia. The integrity of multiple molecular mechanisms,

Neuronal Migration Disorders in Man

European Journal of Morphology, 2000
A classification of neuronal migration disorders based on the gross morphology of the disorder with subclassifications according to the cause of the underlying disorder as far as that is known is presented. Emphasis is on disorders of the neocortex.

Neuronal migration, apoptosis and bipolar disorder

Revista de Psiquiatría y Salud Mental (English Edition), 2012
Bipolar disorder, like the majority of psychiatric disorders, is considered a neurodevelopment disease of neurodevelopment. There is an increased rate of neuronal birth and death during this development period. In the particular case of the processes that determine neuronal death, it is known that those neurons that establish connections have to be ...

DISORDERS OF NEURONAL MIGRATION: SONOGRAPHIC FEATURES

Developmental Medicine & Child Neurology, 1986
SUMMARYThe cranial ultrasound features of two neonates with neuronal migration disorders are described. One infant had lissencephaly and the other polymicrogyria in conjunction with the Pena‐Shokeir syndrome type 1. A third infant is described who was born extremely prematurely and with Down's syndrome, who had similar ultrasound features. By two weeks

Neuronal migration disorders in cerebral palsy

Neuropathology, 1999
We retrospectively analyzed 58 autopsy cases of cerebral palsy which were clinically diagnosed at the Aichi Prefecture Colony Hospital. Most of the cases of cerebral palsy had brainweights that were 60-70% of the normal brainweight for their ages. However, approximately 20% of the brains were not small, especially in cases over 20 years of age.
