Vibrational spectrum and structure of nido-carborane 11-CH3-2,7-C2B9H12
Bulletin of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR Division of Chemical Science, 19861. The full vibrational spectra of the nido-carborane 11-CR3-2, 7-C2B9H12 and its μ-dideutero derivative were obtained. An assignment is proposed for some of the frequencies. 2. The Raman spectrum contained broad bands belonging to the stretching vibrations of the extra-hydrogens.

The nido-carboranyl thymidine analogues were designed to be effective substrates for human thymidine kinase 1 in combination with an increased water solubility sufficient for clinical application in boron neutron capture therapy.

A detailed investigation of the σ-hole on the halogen atom present in the nido-heteroboranes is made by employing quantum mechanical methods. The bromide and the hydroxyl groups are incorporated in the exo-substituents of the nido-boranes. The potential of the bromide σ-hole was compared to that of electrostatic potential of hydroxyl group counterpart.

Synthesis and vesicle formation of a nido-carborane cluster lipid for boron neutron capture therapy
Chem. Commun., 2004The nido-carborane lipid, which has a double-tailed moiety, was synthesized from heptadecanol in 5 steps. Analysis in a transmission electron microscope by negative staining with uranyl acetate showed that the lipid formed a stable vesicle in which calcein was encapsulated.

Heterodisubstituted 1,10-dicarba-closo-decaboranes from substituted nido-carborane precursors
Polyhedron, 1999Abstract Mono- and heterodisubstituted 1,10-dicarba- closo -decaboranes 1 have been prepared from substituted nido -carboranes 3 and by carboxylation and arylation of 1-alkyl- p -carboranes. Thermal dehydrogenation followed by skeletal rearrangement of 3 furnished 1 in modest yields.
