nifH amplification for Illumina sequencing v1 [PDF]
For metabarcoding purpose, the first step involves the amplification by PCR of a given gene region (for example V4 or V9 region of 18S rRNA gene) or gene itself if its size does not exceed 600bp (the longest fragment size that can be sequenced by Illumina technology).

Enhancement of Nitrogenase Activity in Recombinant Escherichia coli by Replacing Upstream Region of nif Operon from Paenibacillus Species. [PDF]
Biological N2 fixation by nitrogenase offers a sustainable alternative to the Haber–Bosch process. Heterologous nitrogenase production in Escherichia coli is a promising strategy. We engineered E. coli with nitrogen fixation (nif) operons from diazotrophic Paenibacillus species.

Elevated atmospheric CO2 (eCO2) results in plant growth and N limitation, yet how root-associated nitrogen-fixing bacterial communities respond to increasing atmospheric CO2 and nitrogen fertilization (eN) during the growth stages of rice is unclear ...

Selection of genes that have not been horizontally transferred for prokaryote phylogenetic studies is regarded as a challenging task. Internal transcribed spacer of ribosomal genes (16S–23S ITS), microcystin synthetase genes (mcy), nitrogenase (nifH) and

Inhibition of Iron-Molybdenum Cofactor Biosynthesis by L127Δ NifH and Evidence for a Complex Formation between L127Δ NifH and NifNE [PDF]
Besides serving as the obligate electron donor to dinitrogenase during nitrogenase turnover, dinitrogenase reductase (NifH) is required for the biosynthesis of the iron-molybdenum cofactor (FeMo-co) and for the maturation of alpha(2)beta(2) apo-dinitrogenase (apo-dinitrogenase maturation).

Nitrogenase gene amplicons from global marine surface waters are dominated by genes of non-cyanobacteria. [PDF]
Cyanobacteria are thought to be the main N(2)-fixing organisms (diazotrophs) in marine pelagic waters, but recent molecular analyses indicate that non-cyanobacterial diazotrophs are also present and active.

Network analysis reveals ecological links between N-fixing bacteria and wood-decaying fungi. [PDF]
Nitrogen availability in dead wood is highly restricted and associations with N-fixing bacteria are thought to enable wood-decaying fungi to meet their nitrogen requirements for vegetative and generative growth.

Dissolved organic matter stimulates N2 fixation and nifH gene expression in Trichodesmium.
Mixotrophy, the combination of heterotrophic and autotrophic nutrition modes, is emerging as the rule rather than the exception in marine photosynthetic plankton.

Comparative phylogeny of rrs and nifH genes in the Bacillaceae [PDF]
The rrs (16S rDNA) gene sequences of nitrogen-fixing endospore-forming bacilli isolated from the rhizosphere of wheat and maize were determined in order to infer their phylogenetic position in the Bacillaceae. These rhizosphere strains form a monophyletic cluster with Paenibacillus azotofixans, Paenibacillus polymyxa and Paenibacillus macerans.

Selection of dry bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cultivars based on their symbiotic nitrogen fixation (SNF) could reduce the fertilizer N requirement. The nifH gene in the bacterial symbiont facilitates the organic N assimilation by N‐assimilatory enzymes ...
