Changes in Acetylene Reduction Activities and nifH Genes Associated with Field-Grown Sweet Potatoes with Different Nursery Farmers and Cultivars

open access: yesHorticulturae, 2019
Sweet potato cultivars obtained from different nursery farmers were cultivated in an experimental field from seedling-stage to harvest, and the acetylene reduction activity (ARA) of different parts of the plant as well as the nifH genes associated with ...

Contrasted Reactivity to Oxygen Tensions in Frankia sp. Strain CcI3 throughout Nitrogen Fixation and Assimilation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Reconciling the irreconcilable is a primary struggle in aerobic nitrogen-fixing bacteria. Although nitrogenase is oxygen and reactive oxygen species-labile, oxygen tension is required to sustain respiration.

Diversity and Plant Growth‐Promoting Potential of Duckweed‐Associated Bacteria on Wolffia globosa Biomass Production and Nutritional Quality

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 2, April 2026.
Co‐cultivation screening of 116 duckweed‐associated bacteria revealed isolates that enhanced Wolffia globosa biomass up to 77.75%, with Pseudomonas toyotomiensis W5–11 increasing dry weight 3.18‐fold and chlorophyll content 2.75‐fold, demonstrating their potential as biofertilisers for sustainable duckweed production.

Reprogramming of Gene Transcripts and Metabolites by the Wild Soybean Endophyte Pseudomonas sp. 77S3 Improves Soybean Salt Tolerance

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 4, Page 2704-2721, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Soybean is a critical source of protein and vegetable oil worldwide. Expanding its cultivation into salinity lands represents a promising strategy for increasing production; however, soil salinity severely limits soybean growth by disrupting physiological and metabolic homeostasis.

Heterotrophic N2-fixation contributes to nitrogen economy of a common wetland sedge, Schoenoplectus californicus.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
A survey of the ecological variability within 52 populations of Schoenoplectus californicus (C.A. Mey.) Soják across its distributional range revealed that it is commonly found in nitrogen (N) limited areas, but rarely in phosphorus limited soils.

Shotgun metagenomic analysis of microbial communities from the Loxahatchee nature preserve in the Florida Everglades. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
BackgroundCurrently, much is unknown about the taxonomic diversity and the mechanisms of methane metabolism in the Florida Everglades ecosystem. The Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge is a section of the Florida Everglades that is almost entirely ...

Exploring Multifunctional Microbial Genes From the Rhizosphere of Allium ampeloprasum Under Different Fertilization Systems

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, Volume 8, Issue 2, March/April 2026.
This study uncovers key multifunctional genes in the rhizosphere of Allium ampeloprasum under varying fertilization systems. This highlights their roles in nutrient cycling, plant growth promotion, and soil health, thereby offering insight for sustainable agricultural sustainability.

Predicting taxonomic and functional structure of microbial communities in acid mine drainage. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Predicting the dynamics of community composition and functional attributes responding to environmental changes is an essential goal in community ecology but remains a major challenge, particularly in microbial ecology.

High nitrogen fixation and Braarudosphaera presence in the North Sea

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, Volume 71, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Nitrogen fixation, the microbial conversion of dinitrogen gas to ammonia, is a key nitrogen source and critical for sustaining marine productivity. We investigated the diversity and activity of nitrogen‐fixers in surface waters of the North Sea and Norwegian coast during July 2023.
