Synthesis, Neuroprotection, and Antioxidant Activity of 1,1′-Biphenylnitrones as α-Phenyl-N-tert-butylnitrone Analogues in In Vitro Ischemia Models

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
Herein, we report the neuroprotective and antioxidant activity of 1,1′-biphenyl nitrones (BPNs) 1–5 as α-phenyl-N-tert-butylnitrone analogues prepared from commercially available [1,1′-biphenyl]-4-carbaldehyde and [1,1′-biphenyl]-4,4′-dicarbaldehyde. The

Unnatural Amino Acid and Emerging Chemistry Approaches to Map RNA–Protein Interactions

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
This review highlights emerging chemistries for mapping RNA–protein interactions, including genetically encoded unnatural amino acids, novel photocrosslinkers, and non‐photoactivatable crosslinking systems. We compare their mechanisms, reactivity and applications, outlining how these next‐generation tools enable higher‐resolution, site‐specific ...

Immuno-Spin Trapping-Based Detection of Oxidative Modifications in Cardiomyocytes and Coronary Endothelium in the Progression of Heart Failure in Tgαq*44 Mice

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2018
Recent studies suggest both beneficial and detrimental role of increased reactive oxygen species and oxidative stress in heart failure (HF). However, it is not clear at which stage oxidative stress and oxidative modifications occur in the endothelium in ...

α-Phenyl-N-tert-butyl Nitrone Has Scavenging Activity Against Singlet Oxygen (1O2) and Attenuates 1O2-Induced Neuronal Cell Death

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2008
Scavenging activity of α-phenyl-N-tert-butyl nitrone (PBN) against singlet oxygen (1O2) and its effects on 1O2-induced neuronal cell death were examined. PBN at 1–4mM dose-dependently suppressed 1O2 released from activated human neutrophils.
