Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) has been increasingly linked to cardiovascular disease, endothelial dysfunction, and oxidative stress, generated by repetitive nocturnal hypoxemia and reperfusion. Circulating free nitrotyrosine has been reported as a novel biomarker of nitric oxide (NO)-induced oxidative/nitrosative stress.

In this work, we will present some attempts to analyze tyrosine and nitrotyrosine using capillary electrophoresis and either UV-Visible detection or laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) detection. An argon ion (488 nm) laser is used for fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) and 7-fluoro-4-nitro-2,1,3-benzoxadiazole (NBD-F).

Nitrotyrosine internal standard for amino acid analysis

Abstract 3-Nitrotyrosine is shown to be suitable as an internal standard for amino acid analysis. It is stable to acid hydrolysis, gives a color yield of 1.01 with ninhydrin which obeys Beer's Law, elutes in a position which is resolved from other amino acids on both Spinco and Durrum amino acid analyzers, and is commercially available.
