Appropriate nitroxoline dosage regimen design.
International journal of clinical pharmacology and biopharmacy, 1980Clinically used dosage regimen of nitroxoline, three times 100 mg daily, was proved to be inappropriate because the successfulness of medical treatment was rarely sufficient. Nitroxoline, used as urinary antiseptic, exhibits its antibacterial activity in concentrations higher than 6 mg/l, as demonstrated in many "in vitro" experiments.

[In vitro activity of nitroxoline on urogenital mycoplasmas].
Pathologie-biologie, 1987The product nitroxoline was studied in vitro for its activity towards Ureaplasma urealyticum and Mycoplasma hominis. In view of the low MIC values obtained, it seems nitroxoline could be used in the treatment of urinary infections. It is bactericidal, and should not produce resistant strains.

Nitroxoline and its combination with antifungals: An alternative for the treatment of fungal biofilm
Journal of Medical MycologyFungal infections represent a significant public health challenge due to their high mortality rates, which can be exacerbated by the ability of fungi, especially Candida species, to form biofilms on medical devices. These opportunistic pathogens are causing candidemia in debilitated patients, contributing to increased hospitalization costs and ...

Antibacterial and antifungal activities of nitroxoline Mannich bases
Chemotherapy (Basel), 1980The in vitro activity of nitroxoline and its Mannich bases against bacteria and fungi was investigated. Nitroxoline and its derivative with diisopropylamine as an amino component, exhibited the highest antimicrobial activity. The optimum hydro/lipophilic properties (log P), both for antibacterial and antifungal activity, are about log P values of 2 ...
