Retrospective Analysis of Functional Pain among Professional Climbers

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
Climbing became one of the official Olympic sports in 2020. The nociplastic pain mechanism is indicated as important in professional sports. Functional pain, which has not been examined in climbers until now, can be an example of nociplastic pain.

Microglial Activation in Nociplastic Pain: From Preclinical Models to PET Neuroimaging and Implications for Targeted Therapeutic Strategies. [PDF]

open access: yesInt J Mol Sci
Nociplastic pain has recently been introduced as a third entity for identifying patients suffering from chronic pain that arises from altered nociception, without evidence of peripheral nociceptors activation or alterations of the somatosensory system ...

High Prevalence and Clinical Impact of Fibromyalgia in Functional Motor Disorder

open access: yesMovement Disorders Clinical Practice, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Fibromyalgia is characterized by widespread pain, fatigue, sleep and cognitive symptoms. It overlaps clinically with functional motor disorder (FMD), yet its prevalence and impact in FMD remain uncertain. Objective To determine the prevalence of fibromyalgia in FMD using the current criteria and evaluate its effects on motor ...

Cannabis‐Based Oil for Pain and Other Non‐Motor Symptoms in Parkinson's Disease: A Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesMovement Disorders, EarlyView.
Abstract Background There is a lack of treatments for non‐motor symptoms (NMS) in Parkinson's disease (PD). Objective To assess the safety and effectiveness of an oral Cannabis sativa L. extract on pain and other NMS of PD. Methods This phase II, randomized, placebo‐controlled trial evaluated a formulation containing cannabidiol (CBD; 96 mg/ml) and Δ9 ...

Effect of pain management, supervised exercise, and pelvic floor muscle training on sexual function in women with endometriosis: A randomized controlled trial

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, EarlyView.
A multimodal intervention including supervised exercise, pelvic floor muscle training, and pain management was associated with modest short‐term improvements in sexual function among women with endometriosis. Findings should be interpreted cautiously due to differences in sexual activity status between groups.

Novel approaches for drug development against chronic primary pain: A systematic review

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Chronic primary pain (CPP) persisting for more than 3 months, associated with significant emotional distress without any known underlying cause, is an unmet medical need. Traditional or adjuvant analgesics do not provide satisfactory pain relief for a great proportion of these patients.

The putative role of immune-inflammatory mechanisms in nociplastic pain pathways: a narrative review [PDF]

open access: yesExploration of Immunology
Nociplastic pain is the fourth category of pain defined in recent years. It is a pain arising from altered nociception, despite the lack of clear evidence of actual or threatened tissue damage that causes activation of peripheral nociceptors nor evidence
