Blockwise Subspace Identification for Active Noise Control [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
In this paper, a subspace identification solution is provided for active noise control (ANC) problems. The solution is related to so-called block updating methods, where instead of updating the (feedforward) controller on a sample by sample base, it is ...

Investigation of the Uniformity of Gel Shrinkage by Imaging Tracer Particles Using X‐Ray Microtomography

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView., 2023
A novel method for tracking structural changes in gels using widely accessible microcomputed tomography is presented and validated for various hydro‐, alco‐, and aerogels. The core idea of the method is to track positions of micrometer‐sized tracer particles entrapped in the gel and relate them to the density of the gel network.

Characterization of the aircraft bay/landing gear coupling noise at low subsonic speeds and its suppression using leading-edge chevron spoiler

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2019
When the aircraft opens the bay door to let the landing gear either drop or retract, the incoming flow will result in a significant amount of coupling noise from the bay and the landing gear.

Sound pressure-dependent acoustic absorption by perforated rigid-frame porous materials

open access: yesActa Acustica
Porous materials are one of the most common classes of sound absorbers for acoustic treatments. However, thin layers of these classical materials are not efficient at absorbing low-frequency sound waves, which is a practical shortcoming.

Dynamical Generation of Noiseless Quantum Subsystems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We present control schemes for open quantum systems that combine decoupling and universal control methods with coding procedures. By exploiting a general algebraic approach, we show how appropriate encodings of quantum states result in obtaining ...

A Method for Determining the Optimal Location of a Distributed Sensor/Actuator

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 1994
The optimal location problem of distributed sensor/actuator for observation and control of a flexible structure is investigated. Using a property of controllability and observability grammian matrices, this approach employs a nonlinear optimization ...

Effects of Background Sounds on Annoyance Reaction to Foreground Sounds in Psychoacoustic Experiments in the Laboratory: Limits and Consequences

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
In a variety of applications, e.g., psychoacoustic experiments, virtual sound propagation demonstration, or synthesized noise production, noise samples are played back in laboratories.

Effect of offset distances for rod-airfoil interaction noise

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2023
The noise generated by the interaction between the wake of rods and airfoils is a universal phenomenon in the engineering field. The noise generation mechanism is mainly caused by the violent changes of the pulsating pressure on the airfoil surface ...

Design and Evaluation of Active Noise Control on Machinery Noise [PDF]

open access: yesAPSIPA 2021, 2021
Construction workers and residents live near around construction sites are exposed to noises that might cause hearing loss, high blood pressure, heart disease, sleep disturbance and stress. Regulations has been carried out by national governments to limit the maximum permissible noise levels for construction works.

Numerical modeling techniques for noise emission of free railway wheels

open access: yesRailway Engineering Science
In this article, we consider the numerical prediction of the noise emission from a wheelset in laboratory conditions. We focus on the fluid–structure interaction leading to sound emission in the fluid domain by analyzing three different methods to ...
