Impact of fatty acid status on immune function of children in low-income countries.

open access: yes, 2011
In vitro and animal studies point to numerous mechanisms by which fatty acids, especially long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFA), can modulate the innate and adaptive arms of the immune system.

Making Sweat Measurable: Induction, Sampling, and Refreshment in Wearable Biofluid Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Wearable sweat sensing relies not only on chemical detection but also on controlled biofluid management. This Review integrates sweat physiology, induction strategies, and microfluidic sampling architectures, demonstrating how flux, transport, and refreshment shape measurement reliability.

The role of microbes in rumen lipolysis and biohydrogenation and their manipulation

open access: yesAnimal, 2010
Despite the fact that the ruminant diet is rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), ruminant products – meat, milk and dairy – contain mainly saturated fatty acids (SFA) because of bacterial lipolysis and subsequent biohydrogenation of ingested PUFA ...

A Microgel Platform Enables Site‐Specific Intestinal Delivery of Lactoferrin, Improving its Bioavailability for Targeted Alleviating Liver Injury and Colitis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work first time reports an eco‐friendly desert plant food‐based polysaccharide ASKP microgels which have intestinal site‐specific release properties which can achieve small‐intestine or colon targeting capability via different cross‐linking chemistry.

Replacement of dietary saturated fatty acids by trans fatty acids lowers serum HDL cholesterol and impairs endothelial function in healthy men and women

open access: yes, 2001
We tested whether trans fatty acids and saturated fatty acids had different effects on flow-mediated vasodilation (FMD), a risk marker of coronary heart disease (CHD). Consumption of trans fatty acids is related to increased risk of CHD, probably through

MiR‐940 Suppresses Ferroptosis by Controlling Expression of Key Regulatory Genes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A CRISPR‐based screening identified miR‐940 as a critical suppressor of ferroptosis in cancer. By coordinating the downregulation of pro‐ferroptotic genes with the upregulation of GPX4, miR‐940 establishes a regulatory network that protects against ferroptosis and correlates with poor clinical outcomes in distinct cancer entities.

Control of Plasma Non-Esterified Fatty Acids in Pregnancy and the Puerperium.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1961
SummaryThe amount and timing of glucose administered to fasting post partum women receiving intravenous insulin determines the amount and direction of change in plasma NEFA. Twenty-five grams of glucose inhibits the characteristic response of NEFA to insulin while half this dosage either enhances the insulin effect or causes secondary decrements in non-

Effects of fatty acids on inflammatory markers studies in vitro and in vivo

open access: yes, 2008
Inflammation involves interactions amongst many different cell types as a defense mechanism of the body. Inflammation is also involved in cardiovascular disease (CVD).

Imaging‐Guided Live Single‐Cell Lipid Profiling of Leader and Follower Cellsduring Collective Migration of Triple‐Negative Breast Cancer Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Integrated single‐cell mass spectrometry reveals distinct lipidomic signatures that differentiate leader and follower phenotypes in migratory breast cancer cells. Phenotype‐specific alterations across various lipid classes, including fatty acids and phosphatidylcholines, underpin functional heterogeneity.

Chemiluminescecnt determination of serum non-esterified fatty acids.

open access: yesBUNSEKI KAGAKU, 1988
We have developed a method for chemiluminescent determination of serum non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA) using acyl-CoA synthetase, acyl-CoA oxidase, iso-luminol and micro peroxidase. Since the determination of serum NEFA by the chemiluminescence method was interfered with serum bilirubin, the bilirubin oxidase was used to eliminate the effect of ...
