From Food to Power: Hydrogel Thermoelectrics for Ingestible Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce a fully edible thermoelectric–electrochromic platform that harvests heat from food and converts it into a visible color change. N‐type and p‐type hydrogel thermoelectric generators connected in series power anthocyanin‐based electrochromic displays, demonstrating the feasibility of safe, biodegradable, ingestible systems for on‐food ...

Undegraded Non-starch polysaccharides (NSP) in feces from growing pigs.

open access: yes, 2016
Pigs were fed diets containing 500 g/kg rapeseed meal (RSM) or distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) as the only fiber source, with or without inclusion of β-glucan-extract (β-GLUC) or retrograded tapioca (RG).

Energy Values of Non-Starch Polysaccharides: Comparative Studies in Humans and Rats [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Nutrition, 1997
Energy values of non-starch polysaccharides (NSP) were estimated from NSP fermentability and from digestible energy balances in human subjects and in rats. During four studies, humans consumed four low fiber control diets and six high fiber diets. For the rat diets, duplicates of the foods consumed by humans were mixed together, freeze-dried and ground.

Clusterization‐Triggered Emission from Cellulose‐Based Luminophores in Dilute Aqueous Solution through Imine Formation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Clusterization‐triggered emission is realized in dilute aqueous solution by introducing imine linkages into cellulose‐based luminophores. Imine functionalization creates O/N‐rich, hydrogen‐bonded clustered microenvironments that stabilize emissive states and restrict molecular motions. Luminescence is tunable by amine type and multiplicity.

Low‐Fraction Irregular Inclusions Trigger Large Compression Stiffening in Biopolymer Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Irregular inclusions at low filler fractions trigger large compression stiffening in biopolymer hydrogels. By promoting contact‐network formation under compression, these inclusions induce non‐affine rearrangements, stretch surrounding fibers, and provide parallel load‐bearing pathways.

Non-starch polysaccharides in the set of spring barley varieties. [PDF]

open access: yesKvasny Prumysl, 2011
