Diagnosing arthropod-borne flaviviruses: non-structural protein 1 (NS1) as a biomarker.

Trends in Microbiology, 2023
In recent decades, the presence of flaviviruses of concern for human health in Europe has drastically increased, exacerbated by the effects of climate change - which has allowed the vectors of these viruses to expand into new territories.

Prospects for a virus non-structural protein as a subunit vaccine

Vaccine, 1988
The design of contemporary vaccines to date has been dependent upon our understanding of the process of stimulation of protective immunity by virion proteins. However, studies with the flaviviruses have demonstrated that protective immunity can be elicited by a non-structural protein, NS1.

The non‐structural 5A protein of hepatitis C virus

Journal of Viral Hepatitis, 1999
The non‐structural (NS)5A protein of hepatitis C virus (HCV) is cleaved, after translation, by the NS3‐encoded zinc‐dependent serine proteinase, from the NS4B protein upstream and the NS5B protein downstream. The released, mature NS5A protein is a 56 000 MW phosphoprotein (p56), which also exists within infected cells in a hyperphosphorylated form (p58)

Expression of a potyvirus non-structural protein in transgenic tobacco

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1989
A cDNA fragment encoding the cytoplasmic inclusion protein of tobacco vein mottling virus was inserted into the plant expression cassette of a Ti plasmid-based binary vector. The vector was transferred to Agrobacterium tumifaciens, and following a modified leaf disc procedure, transformed tobacco plants were obtained.
