Novel experimental protocol to increase specific plasma nonesterified fatty acids in humans

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Physiology - Endocrinology and Metabolism, 2003
This study reports a novel protocol to increase plasma monounsaturated, polyunsaturated, and saturated nonesterified fatty acids (NEFA) in eight healthy volunteers (age 29-54 yr, body mass index 23-26 kg/m(2)).

The effect of the change of position on the nonesterified fatty acids

Experientia, 1973
El cambio postural ocasiona un aumento significativo de los acidos grasos libres plasmaticos. El test bioquimico postural propuesto es util para distinguir hipotension ortostatica asimpaticotonica de la de organo efector.

Nonesterified fatty acids, cognitive decline, and dementia

Current Opinion in Lipidology, 2020
Purpose of review Dementia is rapidly growing as sources of morbidity and mortality as the US population ages, but its pathophysiology remains poorly understood. As a result, no disease-modifying treatments currently exist. We review the evidence that nonesterified fatty acids may play a key role in this condition.

The Significance of Nonesterified Fatty Acids in Plasma

Archives of Internal Medicine, 1958
Recent studies have clarified some aspects of fatty acid transport. The results promise to be of clinical importance, since fat, as a major energy source and as a component of body structure, plays a central role in chronic diseases of metabolism. For example, obesity can be conceived as an abnormal balance between the total amount of fatty acid stored

Cellular Transport of Nonesterified Fatty Acids

Journal of Molecular Neuroscience, 2001
Transport of nonesterified fatty acids (NEFA) is an important component of whole-body energy metabolism, and derangements in NEFA transport have been linked to several diseases. NEFA are transferred from their sites of production to cells in hepatic and peripheral tissues by mechanisms that are regulated in part by cell status and as determined by the ...

In Vitro Effects of Nonesterified Fatty Acids on Bovine Neutrophils Oxidative Burst and Viability [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 2006
An in vitro study was conducted to examine the influence of nonesterified fatty acids (NEFA) on bovine polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN). Eight healthy, midlactating Holstein cows were used as blood donors.

Nonesterified fatty acids in the pathogenesis of hypertension: theory and evidence

Prostaglandins, Leukotrienes and Essential Fatty Acids, 1997
This paper approaches the hypothesis that fatty acids contribute to hypertension by examining possible interactions of nonesterified fatty acids with renal pressure-natriuresis, peripheral vascular resistance, and the central nervous barostat, three loci where long-term regulation of blood pressure is probably controlled.

Mechanisms of interference of nonesterified fatty acids in radioimmunoassays of steroids

Clinica Chimica Acta, 1979
Addition of nonesterified fatty acids caused an apparent increase in unbound steroid present in supernatants in radioimmunoassays for steroids utilizing dextran-coated charcoal. Nonesterified fatty acid interference occurred at the initial binding interaction between steroid and its antiserum, and also at the step separating bound from unbound steroid.

Effect of nonesterified fatty acids on the stability of prostacyclin activity

Metabolism, 1983
The half-life of the platelet antiaggregatory activity of prostacyclin (PGI2) is prolonged when PGI2 is incubated in human plasma or in fatty-acid-free human albumin solutions. This "PGI2-protective" effect is diminished when fatty acids are added to the incubate, and the diminution is proportional to the concentration of the nonesterified fatty acids ...

Sensitive micro determination of nonesterified fatty acids

Microchemical Journal, 1972
Abstract A procedure is described in which an extremely sensitive copper ligand, TETD, is used as a substitute for DDC in the indirect determination of NEFA. The latter was isolated by extraction into chloroform as a copper soap followed by reaction between TETD and the copper in acid solution.
