Nonsense-Mediated mRNA Decay and Cystic Fibrosis

2011
Approximately one-third of the alleles causing genetic diseases carry premature termination codons (PTCs). Therapeutic approaches for mutations generating in-frame PTCs are aimed at promoting translational readthrough of the PTC, to enable the synthesis and expression of full-length functional proteins.

Incomplete nonsense-mediated mRNA decay in Giardia lamblia

International Journal for Parasitology, 2008
Messenger RNAs containing premature translation stop codons are degraded by a nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD) system. The NMD pathway is present in yeast, plants and mammals and is thought to protect cells from production of nonfunctional proteins by rapidly degrading mutant mRNAs.

An UPF3-based nonsense-mediated decay in Paramecium

Research in Microbiology, 2014
Nonsense-mediated decay recognises mRNAs containing premature termination codons. One of its components, UPF3, is a molecular link bridging through its binding to the exon junction complex nonsense-mediated decay and splicing. In protists UPF3 has not been identified yet.

Nonsense‐mediated decay of human LDL receptor mRNA

Scandinavian Journal of Clinical and Laboratory Investigation, 2009
The objective of this project was to determine whether nonsense mutation in the low density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) induces nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD).Four known nonsense mutations (W23X, S78X, E207X and W541X) in the LDLR gene, which are found in Norwegian familial hypercholesterolaemia (FH) patients, were investigated. Epstein-Barr virus (

How Retroviruses Escape the Nonsense-Mediated mRNA Decay

AIDS Research and Human Retroviruses, 2015
Many posttranscriptional processes are known to regulate gene expression and some of them can act as an antiviral barrier. The nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD) was first identified as an mRNA quality control pathway that triggers rapid decay of mRNA containing premature stop codons due to mutations.

Autism and Nonsense Mediated Decay (NMD)

Journal of Neurology and Neuroscience, 2015
Autism is a complex childhood developmental disability that causes problems with social interaction and communication [1]. “Infantile Autism” was first diagnosed and classified by Kanner [2] and for nearly 50 years was viewed as relatively rare, low incidence condition.

CYP3A5 mRNA Degradation by Nonsense-Mediated mRNA Decay

Molecular Pharmacology, 2005
The total CYP3A5 mRNA level is significantly greater in carriers of the CYP3A5*1 allele than in CYP3A5*3 homozygotes. Most of the CYP3A5*3 mRNA includes an intronic sequence (exon 3B) containing premature termination codons (PTCs) between exons 3 and 4.
